Self Install Kit - contents

Hi,

I have existing FiOS internet and phone service and just ordered FiOS TV to replace existing DirecTV service (3 STBs). While I am waiting for the self install kit to arrive, can someone advise on whether a multi-way coax splitter (I guess 4 way) will be included with the kit? This way I'll know to order a splitter before the kit arrives.

Also, it was not clear to me whether I would receive a new router or re-use my existing router.

A new splitter will not be included so you will have to get one if you want it. Just make sure it supports moca 2.0.

As far as the router goes are you getting Quantum tv service or just regular? If you are getting quantum and the media server and you don't have a rev.i right now then you are supossed to get one with the kit as it's required for Quantum service. If you already have a rev.i then you won't get a new one or if you are just getting non quantum service then you also won't get a new router.

My order does not specifically say Quantum TV so I'm going to say its regular FiOS - so no new router it seems.

I'm dismayed that the self install kit will not include enough splitters to support my STBs , as DirecTV had its splitter built into the dish. Is there an easy way to tell whether a splitter is bidirectional? Most of the product descriptions on splitters do not indicate this.

Also, am I correct in assuming that if the splitter is rated for up to 2.3GHz it is sufficient for MoCA 2.0 ?

Unless you are getting the media server dvr with 6 tuners then you are just getting regular tv service.

Most splitters will say on them if they support moca 2.0 and yes in general 2.3 ghz is good enough, but you really dont need to get a moca 2.0 splitter unless you have Quantum service. If you ever decide to upgrade later then it will save you some money so it might be better to invest in one that does support it now if you ever do upgrade.

If you aren't sure if a splitter is or isn't bidirectional you could just search amazon, ebay, or elsewhere for a bidirectional 4 way splitter and go with one of those.
