I've read about the solution to hit the channel up twice and then channel down and I did that on both tvs but it did not fix the out if sync audio echo effect. Is there another solution that a non-techie can folllow?

Try this and see if it helps:
Main Menu > Customer Support > Top Support Tools > Fix FiOS TV Issues
Main Menu > Customer Support > Top Support Tools > Self Diagnostics
There is also a way to control sync in the service menu but try those first.
