remote mute button leaves volume off and will not turn back on

OK I have remote P265.  It worked up until a few days ago when Verizon sent out an update.  Now the volume takes a long time to come on after I turn TV on.  Then if I use the MUTE button, it takes a long time to work and when I toggle it again, the VOLUME stays off.  I have followed the older solutions in the Forums and they do not work.  There is no Voice Remote choice in my System menus.  I have restarted router etc. and I have programmed the remote several times.  BUT nothing works.

YES, you are right.  Remote must work with TV.  Mine must have been set to send signal to the STB (set top box).   Somehow I found the answer among the many others.  Reminder, my problem was with MUTE button and with VOL on and off.   I got it to WORK.  here is how I did it:

1.  Press the OK button and the number 2 button together and then release.  You see the little red light blink and then go off.

2. Then you use the number keys to enter 9-5-5.  I think the red light blinks again.

3. Then press and release the TV (i.e. power) button.

For me, after I did this it worked right away.  Good luck!

I assume you have older Fios boxes, Not the Fios One boxes. The mute and volume should be done on your TV, not the Fos box. Did you try re-programming the remote for your TV?  Replaced the batteries lately? You may have a defective remote, and need to get a replacement from Verizon, should be free. Any Fios update will NOT affect the issue you are seeing.

Glad you found the solution. You re-programmed the remote to use your TV as the Audio device, instead of the Fios box.  That puts your TV in control.
