Kyocera Cadence s2720 - draining battery

I have used a Kyocera Cadence s2720.  It wouldn't bring up the right date and time, although it seemed to correct itself a few hours later.   The battery kept draining, we tried a new battery, and it still keeps losing power.  Could it be that the phone is defective?
