change coax to eternet cable

i have an old action tech router thats connected with a coax from outside box to inside house on router.can i pull the coax out and replace it with the eternet .then call verizon to switch from coax to eternet.also would i have to release the dchp first or not.also whats a good phone number to call for this.the reason for this next year i'll be getting the new plan that comes with a new router and using a cell phone on auto pay.i have a land line now.
