39.99 Upgrade fee for 500gb DVR

I feel that the 39.99 upgrade fee to upgrade my DVR is an unfair fee. I get billed almost $400/mo. From Verizon for my TV/Internet and Phone service. I feel that after spending that much a month for service I should not have to pay an extra fee to get improved equipment. My neighbor just signed up for service on the lowest cost plan and got the new box. Does anyone else feel that this fee is high and/or unreasonable?

First, $400 a month? Really? Does that include wireless? I pay $160 a month for the Ultimate bundle triple play with 2 DVRs.

Second, Call a Verizon store where they handle Fios TV and see if you can come in and bring your boxes back yourself and exchange for the new DVR. I just did this. I returned my 2 6416's for the new 7232. The rep at the store said hat I will not be charged any fees. Now the waiting game starts to see if they put the charge on my account anyway.

Has anyone successfully followed the link from the upgrade email? Every time I try, from any computer (even cell phone) it says my login has failed (even though I am logged in and can see my bill). I contacted online support and all they could suggest was clearing cookies which of course did nothing since it did that no matter what computers I used to login. Is there an alternate link or number I could call? It says I have 30 days to take advantage of the upgrade.

I'd really appreciate any help. We're really feeling the pinch of the small DVR we currently have.

Cokeman: where did you do this exchange? The store on 2nd ave in Manhattan said I could not exchange at the store, only on line.

I exchanged at the Voorhess, NJ store. I called first. I figured I would try exchanging at the store first before going the online route. After seeing some people complaining about the $40 fee and the responses were that the $40 charge was probably covering the shipping and handling for Verizon. I figured if this was the case I would save the money and go to the store myself and get the boxes.

I dont know what to tell you about the error you are getting from the email. Only to call Verizon about it. Sorry!

Verizon made 2 mistakes with the design of the upgrade 500gb DVR.

1. There is no AC outlet on the new unit, so when replacing the old unit I had to run new AC extension cord for the TV. The instructions that came with the unit shows an AC outlet that does not exist on my unit.

2. The new remote can only control the STB and a TV. No way to control Audio Receiver and DVD which could be done with the old remote. I stupidly returned my old remote with the old STB before I realized this shortcoming. The old remote which I still have for my bedroom STB (no DVR) operates the new STB perfectly. So I now need 3 remotes in order to control everything that used to work of the single remote.

3. On the positive side, the new unit is much better looking with its uncluttered front panel in black glass.

The increased capacity is wonderful, and the unit has been flawless in operation, and easy to set up.

There is also no dimmer for the bright display (or none that I can find) and when recording, instead of an icon, should simply be a red dot like EVERYTHING ELSE....

Was just getting ready to upgrade dvr when i read this post. Can someone confirm.

1-no switched outlet

2-remote cannot control aux. (receiver)

Will old remote still work? (green ok button)
