I have been able to receive emails this morning but cannot send. I am using Outlook
Force5,
I've been having the same problem this morning using Thunderbird. The SMTP server(s) connection keep(s) timing out.
Verizon SMTP servers dead in the water, can POP but not SMTP
We use Thunderbird and it has been timing out all morning, unable to send messages.
Same here. I have outgoing on port 465, so this baffles me. It's been several hours.Verizon needs to get their **bleep** together.
Same here, down all morning. Wonder when Verizon will declare an outage? ...if ever
Verizon 800 # says email server "down for maintenance until sunday 1/5 11am"!!! Really????
I am receiving email, but can not send. Was able to send last week, now receiving this message:
The connection to the server has failed.
Subject 'Re: Playdate?'Server: 'smtp.verizon.net'Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0EProtocol: SMTPPort: 465Secure(SSL): YesSocket Error: 10060
Why can't I send?
Been having the same problem this morning using Thunderbird, but can send email from my verizon account on my kindle.
Changed settings to match kindle -- No Security.
When you change Outgoing Server (SMTP) Connection Security to 'None', it changes port in outgoing to 587.
Same with me. Can receive email but can not send from either the PC or the Mobile Phone.
Same here. I assume a server error this morning. Hopefully verizon is on it.
I'm having the same problem with both Windows Live Mail and Thunderbird. Is the SMTP server down?
Us too in Allentown, Pa. area. We receive mail ok, but cannot send
since around 8 AM today. Still down at 11:39AM.
Falls Church, VA, Verizon FIOS customer: unable to send outgoing email since 1000 on 04jan2014. Verizon robot at 800-837-4966 claims "account unavailable due to system maintenance." Estimated restoration time 11:16 on Sunday, 05 Jan 2014.
Ditto on the sending problem. Per the error message, cannot connect with sending (SMTP) server. Problem on both iPAD and MS Outlook 10.
But that won't stop them from raising the price! They continue to sell the same broken servers for more and more money without putting any work into them? Can you imagine if they sold used cars?
"Verizon 800 # says email server "down for maintenance until sunday 1/5 11am"!!! Really????"
Very interesting! Yet I received a message the Verizon lady across the street sent me, when I asked her to in order to check it out; yet I am unable to send one to her.
BAH!!!
Who knows of another email provider that I can hook up to direct without going through Verizon servers - or is that impossible.
Webmail MAY be working as it doesn't need a SMTP server.
I doubt its just down for maintenance, more than likely one or more servers failed, and is being replaced. Note SMTP Email here near Tampa FL is working.
I called Verizon support as I too have been unable to send messages all morning. The representative said they have an outage that they are working on and that it would be 24 - 48 hours before it was resolved. Ridiculous!
Followup to my previous post.
Verizon tech rep says:
Verizon is aware of the sending problem (there is no receiving one, at least that Verizon is aware of) and is troubleshooting it. However, the issue is "unconfirmed," meaning Verizon has not isolated the problem down to a specific failure. Until they do that, they can't determine what to fix. This problem affects all mail.clients (Mac, Tbird, Outlooks, any other third-party) on all devices (PCs, iPads/Phones, Androids, etc.). The information from the robot at 800-837-4966 is canned and does not pertain to this issue, including the estimated restoration time, which can't be estimated until Verizon figures out what the problem is. Until Verizon isolates and then repairs the problem, the solution to the receiving problem is to pull up your account(s) directly via Verizon Webmail, which does not have any issues.
Hope this helps everybody out. If you hear anything more recent than 1548 EST, pls post.
Another update as of 1609 EST (Falls Church VA):
Problem is system-wide, and no system-wide solution available yet.
POSSIBLE SOLUTION (your mileage may vary): I changed my outgoing server to outgoing.verizon.net, changed the port number for the outgoing server to 587, and turned off SSL. I then successfully sent and received a test message on my account. I then verified that all the queued email in my Outbox had been cleared.
If you use this solution, pls remember to switch back as soon as Verizon figures out what's going on and fixes it.
Good luck!
Hello -
Has anyone found a fix for this issue? I am still unable to send from my iphone and the Verizon tech said they don't support email client issues. Any help would be great. I could get my smtp server to use port 587 without SSL. Thanks!
here. Mine has been behaving badly now for 2 days. Help!
