How can I switch back to basic webmail from Message Center? I don't use any of the features on Message Center other than email, and in fact find everything else very distratcting. But the biggest problem I have with the message center email is that the search function does NOT work - I get "error occurred" every time. For me this is a disaster since I don't use folders very well - so totally rely on being able to search my messages by sender or a word in the subject - to sort by sender is not a viable option in mail center since you have no idea where a certain sender is in the line-up, and scrolling through hundreds of emails to get to the right spot, waiting and waiting for the messages to "load," is beyond tedious - please help me preferably switch back to webmail or at the least tell me when/how the "search" function will work in the message center. Thanks!

As to where you can change the settings.
Go to General Settings area of My Settings in the webmail interface.

The screenshot you show me seems to be from webmail - which I am trying to get back to - not Message Center. Message Center's "General" tab under "settings" contains only a single option - "Display", and within Display there is only one setting - "Language." There are no other Display settings. The "Email" link under "settings" has only the following options: Option, Filters, Spam Detector, Blocking, Vacation Reply and Signature.

I'm no expert but I have been having the same problem. As **bleep** as it sounds, I switched back to my webmail and did a search to make sure I could find the emails I was looking for. I did. Then I switched back to the new version of Email and repeated the search. It WORKED!! I did a different search and that worked too. No error this time.
I think that a flag did not get set properly for the search in the Message Center that is set in the webmail section. So when you switch to webmail and back that flag is still set. I think it's a programming error and a **bleep** one. When all you get is "Sorry, an error occured" this doesn't tell you what happened or of a direction support people can go to find the problem.
It's a work around at best.
Good luck.

Not sure why bleeps are being substituted in my post. I don't use bad language. All I said was s-t-u-p-i-d... or another word for dumb.

To return to webmail:
Go to the page where you can click and scroll to read your emails. In the upper right hand corner you have several options as I've shown here.:
HELP | FEEDBACK | GO TO CLASSIC VIEW --> | SEARCH MESSAGE CENTER
Select this option GO TO CLASSIC VIEW --> This will return you to webmail.
I hope this help.

HELP! I can't get this to work. I really don't like this new email and I want to go to the way it was before. The classic view. But in the upper right hand corner of my email screen it has these options: Help - feedback - search message center. There is no "go to classic view" option, it isn't even listed on there. Why would that be, and how can I get this option cause that's what I want to do, go to classic view? Is there anywhere else in verizon where I can choose "go to classic view" for my email?

This sucks, I used the contact verizon button, and used the "talk to a live representative" button. This is part of the conversation I had with them:
Amtoz(18:37:33): I would like to inform you that Verizon has upgraded its e-mail to new Verizon 2.0 Webmail and has disabled all the old format, I apologize that we won't be able to switch your e-mail to the old format. There used to be a button to switch back to old format, however this button has now been removed from there. {edited for privacy}18:39:18): Why did they do that??? And why when I go into the forums, they tell me to click that, if it doesn't exist anymore? {edited for privacy}(18:41:23): Can I get that button back? (I really like the old email, and I really, really hate this new one. Amtoz(18:41:48): The forums have information about the old formats, now they do not have the back or switch buttons. J{edited for privacy}(18:43:18): What if I really hate this new email format? How can I switch back to the old style? Amtoz(18:44:23): I really apologize, however there is no way to switch your e-mail to the old format. You can give it a try by using the link : http://netservices.verizon.net/ to access your e-mails. (by the way, this didn't work).
That's bad news for me. Is anyone who still has the old email, is it still in that format?

I am still able to switch to the Classic view. Several friends also use the classic view. I would call Verizon again. Sometimes the agent you talk to is just not very knowledgeable. I usually call back right away if I talk to an agent and get no help. Most of the time, the second try gets results. Try reporting your problem on "feedback" at the top of your E mail page. That often works. Since I would rather" fight than switch", I just keep seeking help until I get satisfaction.

FYI: I got a callback from Verizon support this week saying that the search problem, where you always get the message "Sorry, an error occurred", is due to a 10 second timeout in the webmail UI. They are supposedly increasing this timeout in an update that's coming in January.
The problem is worse in the new mail UI because it searches all fields by default. In the old mail UI, you can choose to search Senders, Subjects, Message, etc. Searching less content means that it's less likely to timeout.

Did they resolve this problem for you? Last night (5/3/2011) I spent 2 hours on Live Chat with a Verizon Tech Support person on this exact same error message, Sorry an error occurred. I asked him if it was a timeout issue and he stated it was not. He took over my session with remote control and was trying different browser settings. He thought he fixed it but today I still receive the same error message. It seems to happen more consistently when searching for text strings for the "Message" search option. After reading your post I confirmed that the error message appears at exactly 10 seconds after starting the search process. Did you find a solution or work-around ?

Not sure why this is happening to you both, but I just tested my email account and could not repeat the issue. I have about 58 emails on my inbox. Do you both have more emails and/or folders?

It is not fixed. I think their "fix" was to add back the picker where you can choose to search Sender, Subject, Message, etc. This "fixes" it for everything except Message since there is less information to search in those other fields. When I select Message, I still get the same error after 10 seconds. I have about 4500 messages in my inbox. I don't use folders, and I only delete spam and other messages that I know I'll never need again.

I know it sounds wrong, but I think you have a lot of messages for it to go through. Also if you have a simple search, then it may be to broad of a word to search for. try to use multiple words in your search. See if that helps.
