suspicious emails

I keep getting emails that look like they are from Verizon asking me to verify my email accounts. I never answered any of them.

I just got another form of a suspicious email that looks like this:

Dear Valued Verizon Customer,

An issue has been detected, that impacts your ability to send and receive email using your Verizon account. Our engineers are aware and are working towards a resolution. Estimated Restoral time is 10-12-2013 03:32. To sign up for notifications for this outage, please visit verizon.com/outage.

To update your messaging preferences, please visit your MyVerizon profile page.

Your Verizon Team

.If you get a decent third party email client like windows mail,windows live or a newer version of outlook and setup your contact list then setup the safe list (tools>safe options )then the safe list tab

then use safe list option and delete junk mail you can control the spam.

fyi i setup a filter if the from contains verizon then choose delete.all verizon has to send you is advertisements or trash like

what your getting.

First, I am always suspicious of links of that type. A preferable link would be a full link that you could copy and paste into your browser, after verifying the destination.

Second, it seems strange that they would send you an email saying there is something wrong with your ability to receive email.

Third, if you just got this, the estimated restoral time expired before they sent it.

I would consider it a bogus email and forward it to: abuse@verizon.net

Sorry for the delay. I've been pretty busy.

Thanks for the rep[lies I always view emails of this type as suspicious. I have a folder that I named SPOOFS that I move all these emails to. I've been collecting them for years. Suspicious emails from eBay, paypal, bank accounts, Verizon, at&t and different web sites I log into. I have hundreds of these emails collected and I added all the recent Verizon ones to the collection! Someday I'll send the collection to a government ran internet police organization to use for training. Does one exist ?

I also found out from this site that there has be phishing scams of this nature.

At least they did not offer me a million dollars from a South African account, but first I must send them $2,000 to free up the money so it can be sent to me via western union!! My goodness, I couldn't ge to the bank fast enough to send it. Now where is my money? It's been 2 years now. JUST KIDDING !
