Hotspot throttles when I connect laptop to VPN

I used to have an S21 and upgraded to an S23. Whenever I connect my work laptop to the hotspot then our company VPN, It basically deems itself unusable. I did not have this issue before on the S21. I confirmed it is indeed the hotspot because the issue also persists on a different laptop.

FPic, it's good you've got a new device, and I get wanting the hotspot to work as efficency as possible. To gain a few more details, you mentioned using both a VPN for work, and another latop connecting to the hotspot. When you connected the other laptop to the hotspot on the phone, did you also connect still using the VPN? The reason I ask is, in my own experince with VPNs, they can slow down connections. So, knowing how you connected and with what via a second laptop will be helpful. Thank you 🙂

I apologize for the confusion , let me try to clarify the best I can. I do the following in this order:
1. Turn on my phone hotspot.
2. Turn on my Laptop and connect it to the phone hotspot
3. After connection between laptop and phone is confirmed I can use the laptop on internet fine, However when
I connect my laptop to my work VPN (In order to access company resources) I basically lose connection. I get speeds of about .20 download and the upload usually fails.
I understand why it may seem like the VPN is the issue but other colleagues with Verizon can use it just fine. As mentioned even I was able to use it fine on my old phone. I also had someone else try to connect to my phone with the exact steps I take and it still deemed itself unusable. Other people with other providers go through the same steps and have no issues. Our VPN usually handles at a 30x30 speed which is more than sufficient.

It was reported elsewhere that Verizon's home internet gateway also doesn't like it if you have 2 or more "hops" to get through when transmitting data. Since hooking up the company VPN is a 2nd "hop" it's something with how Verizon does the data transmission.
I'm not a Verizon employee, just another customer trying to help.

Just ran into this yesterday. Can confirm, not on VPN I get 300mbps, on VPN it goes to 0.2mbps.
I know it's not the VPN endpoint as I tried 3 in 3 different geographic locations, and have used them on home internet at normal speeds.
Really annoyed, haven't contacted Verizon yet though.
