Stop roaming charges once and for all!

I can’t believe I still have to ask this question in 2025, but here we go.
I have an iPhone 16 with two eSIMs installed — one for Verizon (my US number) and one for my French number. While currently in France, I’ve turned off data roaming for Verizon and set my French eSIM as the primary line for both cellular and data.
However, I’m still receiving Verizon TravelPass activation texts, which is incredibly frustrating.
The only way I’ve found to actually stop these charges is to use the “Turn This Line Off” option in the iOS cellular settings. But last year, a Verizon representative told me that if I do this, my line might be canceled after a while.
Can you please confirm, once and for all, what actually happens when I turn off my Verizon line via iOS settings while abroad? It really feels like this is intentionally unclear, leading to unexpected charges.

It is always good to know your options when travelling. In this case, you can turn off the line when travelling to avoid the TravelPass charge. If your line is at risk of being disconnected, you are notified, as normally this only happens after several months of inactivity.
