Hello,
I want to buy the new iphone 17 but I travel to europe next saturday. I would buy the phone upfront, paid in full. What are my options on getting it unlocked so I can use an european esim?

It is always good to know your options when traveling. In this case, the phone would need to be purchased at a corporate store in order to be unlocked. You can find the closest store to you here: http://spr.ly/6601A4csH

Okay that works I have a store nearby. Also, do I need to get my phone on a prepaid or postpaid plan or I can do that after I come back? Don't see a sense in paying for a service for 3 months that I won't use.

To purchase any device with Verizon, it also has to be activated with service, and activating a Verizon account. Whether that's a montly billed account or a Prepaid plan.

Hi, while buying a Verizon phone at a corporate Verizon store makes it much less likely for the phone to run into some problem with automatically unlocking later, I've never heard of an instance where a Verizon phone could be unlocked sooner than the mandated "use for 60 days on Verizon" per the device unlocking policy. If it were me, I'd buy a factory unlocked version direct from Apple if you want to use it right away overseas. Factory unlocked phones will not run any carrier-specific apps except for "My [carrier]" just as an FYI in case you like using Verizon-specific apps.
I'm not a Verizon employee, just another customer trying to help.
