costa rica service

I paid for the monthly international plan for my trip to Costa Rica, but am finding that the service is very limited. But even when I have multiple bars in LTE, my map apps would not work for directions. I recently tried resetting my phone (powering off and back on), and then it worked for one drive. When it didn't work again at the new location, I reset the phone again, and it worked again.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Is this expected, or is there another way to configure my iPhone 16 Pro?

Yes we are having a very similar issue. I have the same $100 30-day international plan and cannot get any mobile data or messaging when connected to the local networks here in Costa Rica. It is really frustrating.

Based upon what the international coverage map says, a good part of Costa Rica doesn't have any cellular service compatible with Verizon at all (or else whomever is out there doesn't have any contractual agreements with Verizon). There are several areas which only have 2G or 3G service, which aren't data-friendly as modern-day apps need more data speed than what these older wireless technologies can provide (2G doesn't run apps at all). The areas shown as 4G...wouldn't be surprised if it's not quite up to par with 4G LTE in the US, which even here can still be slow if the network is congested.
I'm not a Verizon employee, just another customer trying to help.
