Can I transfer my apps to the SD card? If not what can II put on the card?
Thanks
Don
Download a file explorer app from the Play Store.
Pictures, music, etc.
But not apps.
Has anyone figured out how to have photos, music, videos, etc. automatically save on to an SD card or transfer it to an SD card without an app?
Going to settings and storage doesn't give you any options to do so. Also when I click storage, it tells me how much space is left on my device and sd card but it doesn't allow me to search through the folders in my sd card.
any way to do it without the inconvenience of going through an app?
Plug it into a computer?
yeah, it's more annoying than using an app though. I've had my ellipsis for 4 days now. Am really loving it. Just not liking the annoyance of not bring able to save directly onto my sd card or transfer files onto it without an app.
what is a good file app to use?
I'm liking ES File Explorer so far.
That's the file explorer application I would have recommended.
They need to issue an update to be able to use the sd card for apps or allocate more space to apps. I keep getting the insufficient storage space error because only 1GB is allocated for apps.

Sounds like the manufacturer decided to cut corners on space allowance instead of of making a decent tablet. For the price, I would have looked at better quality built tablet like the Nexus 7.
I have had my ellipsis tablet from Verizon since Tuesday, and already am bothered by some of these issues:
1. The amount of space allocated for apps is pitiful. Compared to my bottom of the line Apple ipad, the ellipsis can only handle one tenth of the number of apps.
2. To make matters worse, the bloatware apps loaded by Verizon are among the hugest apps, and hog too much of the paltry one gig of app space.
3. I am also suspicious of what I will call 4G addiction when the tablet is used for NAVIGATION on Google Maps or WAZE.
When driving in a suckout area with no 4G LTE coverage and no nearby wifi networks, the NAV on Google Maps appeared to send me in strange paths on my very first attempt to use it, sending me North to Flint MI when I intended to go South toward Detroit. This clears up where 4G is present. That low cost 4G only chip is the likely culprit.
In total, Verizon has launched a tablet that is annoying in the first week of use. I have taken my old Garmin GPS out of the drawer and put it back into my car for NAV and have deleted dozens of apps to reclaim space on my Ellipsis. So this this tablet could be more aptly named the buyer's REMORSE rather than Ellipsis. If VZ can remedy these annoyances I will delete or remove this post.
I've had mine since Tuesday too. I'm seriously disappointed in the tablet. My biggest complaint is the storage issue. I'm a college student and had planned on using the Ellipsis for school. When I ordered mine I had hoped this would save me the expense of buying a new 11" laptop for school. However, the pathetically small partition for app space does not even provide enough space for me to install all of the apps I need. If I can't move apps to the SD card OR allocate more space for app storage that pretty much makes the Ellipsis worthless for me. I'm glad I got this free during the Black Friday sale. Had I actually paid full price for it, I would have been returning it. Don't get me wrong, it's a decent little tablet. I think Verizon was excessively optimistic with their claim that the Ellipsis would be "your go-to tablet." In my opinion, there are entirely too many restrictions imposed on it's use simply because of the app space problem.
I had the same issue with storage but just seemed to solve it through the SDK kit (https://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html). Developer options must be unlocked to do this (in settings, go to "About tablet" then press "build number" until you're told it's unlocked). Make sure USB dubugging is enabled in developer options and the tablet is set to "Camera (PTP)" in the USB computer connection after it's connected to the computer. Open a command prompt (shift right click then "open command window here) from the unpacked SDK folder (SDK>platform tools).
From the command prompt, type adb devices to ensure your device appears and it should if the above steps are followed. After you have verified your device is seen, type adb shell pm-set-install-location 2. This sets the device to install apps to tablet storage (i.e., your installed and purchased separately sdcard). Once this is done, go to apps in your device's settings and begin to move any app that you can over to the sdcard.
This isn't a perfect solution but it frees a bit of memory to install plenty more apps without worry of running out of space.
Good luck. I'm satisfied with the tablet now.
We bought two of them. I guess we will be returning both while we still can. I was really liking it until the memory issue reared it's head and I discovered there wasn't any point in the 32 gig cards I installed in them. Bad design unless fixed. We'll return them while we can. I don't want to take the chance that they don't provide a fix. Don't buy these!
I bought a 64 gig micro SD card and installed it in my Ellipsis tablet. I was surprised to discover that it won't accept it. When I went in to Settings-Storage and tried to "mount" the card, it simply would not do it. I pulled the card out, inserted an old 4 gig card I had laying around, and was able to "mount" it with no problem. So, it appears to me that there is some upper size limit to the type of micro-SD card that can be used on the Ellipsis tablet.
The specs say that a 32GB SD card is the max size. http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/device/tablet/ellipsis-7?selectedContractTerm=2
Any update on this issue?
Thank you for your feedback. Following are tips for optimizing the memory on your tablet.
1) Please navigate to Settings>Apps>Downloaded>select an application>select “Move to tablet space”, if it is available.
2) Please navigate to Settings>Apps>Downloaded and uninstall any unwanted applications.
This is worthless information because none of the preloaded apps that take up the space are movable to "tablet" space. Please someone hear our complaints and get an update to re partition the space allocation and it will be all good! :smileyhappy:
Don't waste your time buying a SD Card- this tablet has the storage capacity of shrunken postage stamp. Verizon should throw these Ellipsis 7 's out of their showrooms' since we have maybe 10 apps usable ' & can't move to SD Card. They should fix this with update' or give everybody a free IPad ( which is a real tablet with real storage) . equivalent to 30 mpg car with 1 gallon tank.Verizon is absolutely nuts !
A system update is coming. http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/01/27/verizons-ellipsis-7-getting-pretty-big-ota-update-brings-improved-data-connectivity-better-battery-life-and-more/
I wonder when they plan on pushing it down. I still see nothing when I check for updates.
I'm guessing everyone got the update by now. It helps that they added the disable button to a lot of the pre-installed apps because it does a real uninstall and frees up app space now.
Any one now having issues where it suddenly stops recognizing the SIM card and it requires a reboot?

couldn't agree more with this thread. I got the Ellipsis 7 as my first tablet and it's been disappointing. my Droid holds more apps than the tablet. the Verizon tech told me to get an SD card but I could move only 5 apps to it...so I get the "out of memory" message daily too. I use "Clean Master" to boost memory and clean cache, but it barely helps release a few hundred mb. I feel like I should have sprung for a real tablet from Best Buy rather than this one which is so limited.
Did you get the updated they recently released? If so you can now "disable" apps that are preloaded that you don't want and it will free up app space.
I got an update push today but still don't see that I can move apps too the SD card--can I? And if I hit disable, I get weird messages like "do you want to return to factory installed app." Do I?
Apparently it worked.I wasn't sure because it said it was disabling the app not uninstalling it. We'll see if this works, thanks.
Kieta, I certainly hope so! We definitely want everyone to enjoy all the benefits of the most recent update. Please let us know if you need assistance and for more information about the software updates, please click here http://vz.to/1kH3NOu .AdaS_VZWFollow us on Twitter at @VZWSupport
WickedAnnabella, we don't want this to be an ongoing issue for you. Try briefly removing the sim card and placing it back into your device. Additionally, you will need to power your device off/on to soft reset. Keep us posted. LasinaH_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
wheatieclerk,Great question, at this time you cannot move your apps to your your SD card. Are you getting this error message when you are clearing out the cookies and cache? Do all apps give you this error message? KarenC_VZWSupportFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
I went ahead and ok'd the "disable/restore to factory" and it seemed to work. Weird to call it "disable" vice "uninstall," but it's better now. Waiting for the solution to store apps on the cards though. Seems bad engineering not to allow that. It's my only complaint about the tablet.

Updates did nothing to improve SD card situation. I was running off an old Moto Xoom that came with 32GB of storage and have never had a problem. Decided to go with a more compact tablet... the Ellipsis showed 32GB additional storage so figured would not be a problem. So I got one for myself and one for a friend for Xmas. Big mistake. The unit recognized the card, but will not allow any transfer and even with minimum of apps installed, when it does app updates, it show not enough space for update, so have to uninstall another app to make it work. This device is worthless and regret getting them, on top of that, now stuck with a 2 year contract on each. Wish I had just bought a 7" 32GB tablet with wifi and went with that. Another problem with Ellipsis is that when not in 4LTE area, it will not recognize 3G so it is inoperable unless you are in a free wifi area. They need a system update to fix. Wish I had never got these tablets.. now will cost me $240 in contract charges for two years on devices that are not worth having.
I believe Big V will fix this . Why ? Their advertising of additional upgraded space available by SD card, can easily be interpreted as deceptive advertising to the buyer. No sales rep ever detailed the limitation of internal memory , when reviewing the device at Verizon Store with me( or I suspect with any other customer) . The assumption by Consumer that 32 SD card upgrade would work ' like an IPad' , is exactly what Verizon wanted perceived by Consumer. If Big V does not fix this problem, they are wide open for FCC raid. They don't want that.
Blazin' a trail ............... !
It is now March 23 and no solution to the memory problem is in sight. Verizon has dug in and said that I cannot return two units to exchange for a working / functional tablet. They are playing with fire since when all of my phones are off the 2 year contract window- I will take 8 units and go elsewhere. So much for customer service!!!!!
I just picked up this tablet 2 weeks ago when I upgraded my phone. I was told at the time I could expand the storage by use of an SD card. I purchased a 32gb card today but was dismayed to find I cannot transfer apps to it. My system has the most recent update, but it appears this ongoing issue (as I see in these posts now) was never addressed. Is Verizon content on providing false information to its customers?
Verizon doesn't care about it's customers, that's pretty much it.
The fact remains that they've done nothing to resolve this issue, and they've been lying about this in and out of store since day 1.
They have your money/contract, at the end of the day, that's ALL they care about
You won't be able to store apps to the SD card nor be able to automatically store music, pics, or anything else there via apps until/unless they update this tablet to Kit Kat. Right now its totally a PC/Mac function to actually access the SD card, and after that its strictly a set of static files until you reconnect to a computer with a cable. Why they don't update these to Kit Kit I have no idea. It's a better and more efficient operating system even with its other issues.
So they seriously just abandoned this tablet? If so that super sucks since it's actually quite the tablet for the price. This app storage issue is a serious bummer! Verizon, do you have any plans to patch this? (comment removed)

With the release of the Elipsis 8, it appears Verizon has indeed abandoned this product. It is truly disappointing that you guys did nothing to resolve the SD card issue, nor did anything for customers who were lied to about the SD card being able to increase the storage capacity of the device. You can be rest assured I will never buy another tablet device through Verizon as I do not believe this company is trustworthy in this area. Very disappointed.
