It uses 4G LTE which is classified as "cellular" by the device thus cell standby being a large portion of its use.

I have the exact same problem, but only since the last update, so I don't think the response from Dilbertaz is accurate. Seems there is a lot of issues with this last update. I had Instagram installed at about the same time, so I uninstalled it hoping it would help since it said it was 'Instagram for phone'. Not sure yet it this will make a difference, but it has been over 12 hours & still have battery life. Woo Hoo.

After updating to 4.4.2 my battery life has halved or worse. This update has really sucked.

I went through the same problems on my Motorola Droid Mini with 4.4.2. The battery drains in hours in sleep mode, the processing is so slow you can barely type on it. Even with data usage turned off under Battery you can see cellular usage is the top user. All I can say is the battery usage should get much better if they send out a 4.4.4 update. I don't know if it will be as good as it was before 4.4.2 but my Mini got better.
There are quite a few problems with 4.4.2 that I have seen and I don't use it for much because of this. I do emails and some light browsing, which can still be difficult with the bogged down speed.
Just a few that I've noticed.
The Chrome browser bookmark widgits constantly disappear from the screen.
The email app lost the Select All ability which really helps with junk folders.
"Everything", and I mean everything works slower.
I don't know if 4.4.4 will or should allow installing apps to the SD card because my Droid Mini doesn't accept cards.
Verizon, tell whoever it is to hurry up with 4.4.4, or anything better!
