I don't have the same device, but you may have the same options:
Settings
Applications
Select the application you want moved
Select Move to SD Card

MiiHere: That works on my Droid phone but the option doesn't seem to be
available on the ellipsis 8.

Darn. It's a tablet right? Silly question, but does it even have an SD card? Is the option to move to an SD card not available or greyed out? Or you can't go into settings / applications?

Ellipsis tablets do not transfer files as expected. There is no fix as of yet. Even using a file explorer does not work. There are no official ways to accomplish this. You almost have to use the SD card as a jump drive rather than expandable memory. Apps can be written via PC and then inserted into the tablet, but they cannot be transferred using the tablet alone.

Does that mean they can put the app on the SD card via the computer and then use said SD card in their tablet?

No. Some people have stated they cannot move anything from the tablet to the card. Apps are not movable to the card in KitKat or later on any Android device without unofficial methods.

It does have an SD card but the option to move to the card just isn't there.
