Call Forwarding Does NotWork

I tried entering the *72 plus phone number on my landline. All I get is "sorry we cannot place the number you have dialed." I can't figure out what I am doing wrong, but I really need call forwarding to work.

you wait for the two beeps before entering the number?

*72 or rotary dial 1.1.7.2 to activate call forwarding, when you hear two short tones. At the tone, dial the telephone number where you want your calls forwarded to; when the call is answered, the feature has been activated.
