How is it legal to offer such horrible service in White Plains, NY and Lower Westchester in general?

Isn't Verizon Wireless a registered utility? I drop over 20 calls a day when I work from home, it's impossile to do business. I bought a network extender but it's years old and 3G doesn't work with new phones. When will VZW fix this? Wil they release us from contracts beacuse of terrible serivce that can't be remedied? It's been years and years taht Verizon can't get their networking functional in Lower Westchester while AT&T works just fine. What are the issues that prevent VZW from adding more cell towers?

Wireless service is not a registered utility like power and landline phone service, no.

If AT&T works better where you are, switch service. It's unlikely there will be any big improvement anytime soon. Silly to keep signing contracts if your service has been that bad for that long if there's a viable alternative.

AT&T has their own issues. My question is why Verizon can't find a solution given the plethora of technical options available. Yes, there are regulatory issues that prevent new big cell towers but there are fewer issues with micro cell towers, community wifi or discounted network extenders. Verizon is big enough that they should be able to fix their issues w coverage or we should pay lower rates in areas where they can't serve.

I reject that answer. The only thing that is stopping Verizon from coverage areas is their own laziness and cheapness. There are many new technologies that aren't regulated like big cell towers and Verizon has zero creative solutions to fix micro dead spots. Everyone in my area hates it and suffers terrible service that we pay full price for but no one knows what to do and Verizon could care less.

It's time for a change!

YYou were told to change providers, so that's the change you need. You reject whatever you like but at the end of the day you have options.

There is always Project Fi. That seems like it is exactly what you want in a carrier.

So you have to weigh the pros and cons of each. If you're willing to continue dealing with no signal rather than whatever issues AT&T has, that is your choice. If you aren't WILLING to research and find a better option, that's on you. You can't blame Verizon for that. There are other options for service at varying costs.

There are always landlines. No one is forcing you to use a cell phone.

Incorrect, 3G does work on newer phones. For example iPhone 6S, Samsung Galaxy S7 , HTC phones, LG phones, etc... Aside from 3G, many of the newer phones offer wifi calling thru Verizon such as the iPhone 6 and later, Samsung Galaxy S5 and later, HTC 10, etc...

Service contracts last 2 years. If it has been years and years, you mean to say you have repeatedly entered into multiple contracts knowing about this lack of service? Choose a service which better fits your needs.

I hope that people who live in White Plains, Eastchester, Scarsdale and surrounding areas with horrible Verizon coverage will start to reply to my thread. We are paying TOP DOLLAR for services that simply don't work in our communities. Verizon has done less than zero to correct cell coverage in areas around the 10605 and 10583 zip codes for over ten years and there's simply no excuse. Wifi calling isn't usable unless you stay in one spot and don't walk when you talk or get in your car and drive away. Certain business associates don't allow calls with Wifi calling including Verizon itself! The expensive network extender I bought two years ago is 3G and doesn't work iPhone 6s and I don't want to have to buy another one for $300.

We are all so used to horrible cell coverage that we pay and accept the terrible service we get in return. We must complain more publicly so that Verizon figures out how to fix the service that we pay for and they can't deliver. Personally, I have to work at home and it's incredibly frustrating and unprofessional to not be able to make reliable calls. It's just as frustrating to have 3G coverage with no simultaneous data or to drop business calls.

Then change carriers! How hard is that to do?! And they are buying out contracts. Just switch already.

Again, it is not Verizon. Complain to your local government and get them to allow Verizon to put up towers.

Firstly...No. What. I don't even understand why you even think its illegal.... Or is it? I mean yeah of course theres the QoS (Quality of Service) or in your case, service at all, but hey. Theres only 2 ways your getting 'released' from a contract (that you signed BTW)...Death or terminal illness OR disconnecting because of a no service area. White Plains (as you can see on the coverage map) is completely covered for voice & messaging plus 4G LTE data. So there's no excuse.

Let me get this straight with the Network Extenders. I was really interested in one, I wanted to purchase for my mother since she doesn't get great reception inside her house. So I did research. Network Extenders are NOT REPEATERS. They don't use the cell towers, they use the internet connection in your home. They EXTEND (duh) off of existing (that's why there has to be at least 1 bar of service) service to give you a better VOICE connection. They do NOT work with data UNLESS you buy the 4G one.

Now moving on...

In fact, VZW invested $256 MILLION dollars in New England ALONE in 2012 for network improvements. So yeah. Cheapness.

Even Project Fi is iffy. I mean it's good if you have one phone, MAYBE 2. Plus, most of Google's phones are GSM and the US runs off CDMA not GSM. Theres a compatibility issue, but then again, it is nice that Fi runs off of several different carriers..NOT! No network dedication, good luck getting service when your at the Super Bowl or any event ever. Its a totem pole... VZW towers = VZW first, AT&T 2nd, Sprint 3rd, etc.... <---example

Also, theres like a long list that would PREVENT VZW from building you a tower nearby.

1. Permits. They have to get permission from the local/state government to even have the ability to put one up.

2. Time. It takes on average 6-12 months to build one tower. Doesn't just pop up.

3. Area of Impact. How many people would even benefit from it? Is there a large customer base in the immediate area that are impacted?

And so on and so forth... Now, I would like to quote the Customer Agreement to close my opinion here.

Wireless devices use radio transmissions, so unfortunately you can't get Service if your device isn't in range of a transmission signal. And please be aware that even within your Coverage Area, many things can affect the availability and quality of your Service, including network capacity, your device, terrain, buildings, foliage and weather.

If you drop a call in your Coverage Area, redial. If it's answered within 5 minutes, call us within 90 days if you're a Postpay customer, or within 45 days if you're a Prepaid customer, and we'll give you a 1–minute airtime credit. If you're a Postpay customer and you lose Service in your Coverage Area for more than 24 hours in a row and we're at fault, call us within 180 days and we'll give you a credit for the time lost. Please be aware that these are your only rights for dropped calls or interrupted Service.

MJK1234, as a consumer and cellular phone user myself, I definitely understand the importance of having great cell service. I want this to happen for you. Thank you for providing the zip codes. I show this area does have great coverage. Let’s work together and figure out what is happening. Does this issue happen in your home or outdoors as well? The Network Extender purchased, did you buy directly from Verizon Wireless? They are designed to help with calls and text only, not data. Were your calls improved with this device?

This is basically the only portion of your post with which I have an issue. There does not have to be at least 1 bar of service for an extender to work. Verizon Network Extenders use the existing broadband connection in a home(as you have stated) to create its own mini cell tower. It does not take a cell signal out of the air and amplify it into a usable signal. It takes the broadband connection in your home and creates its own signal which then is transmitted thru the broadband connection to Verizon, similar to VoIP.

I apologize for the mistype. Yeah you are correct, I didn't mean it that way ahha. I meant there has to be SOME service in the area there cant be a NO SERVICE because then there would be nothing for the NE to connect to anyways.

Plus, I don't understand why everyone gets all bent that the network extender doesn't provide LTE data. You need a broadband connection to use it so you can just connect your phone to WiFi for data.

Love this. It's so brutally true everyone gets [removed] hurt over it but like you only use it at home and you use regular internet anyways.
