I was hoping to pay off my current iPhone, buy one straight from Apple which is unlocked and switch my plan with Verizon to prepaid. Or would I still be in contract with Verizon even after paying off my phone?
If you are on a device payment plan now, that is not a service contract. Only a contract to pay off the phone. Once you pay off the phone, there is no further service commitment and you can do as you please. This is very different than when you had a traditional contract and bought phones for reduced price. That was a full 2 year service commitment.
I understand wanting the best option when it comes to upgrading, sinslee. As Weth mentioned, device payment is not a contract, so once paid off you would be able to convert from Postpay to Prepay.
