Verizon would not be able to help you.
Does your phone have a lock screen? If the person who stole it cannot unlock your phone, they would not be able to steal your data.
Do you have an iPhone or an android phone? Both of these devices have methods to perform a remote wipe or lock of your phone but you FIRST must have set up this capability prior to losing your device. If you have not already set up this capability, you are most likely out of luck and will have to rely on your lock screen.
