Network Extender Opinions Needed

I have been with Verizon for a few years. My signal has been great until recent. After moving into my new home, I rarely get one bar of signal, I miss calls (they go straight to voicemail instead of ringing), and calls break up continuously. I talked with tech support, resetting my location without improvement. They said that it was probably the phone, but also suggested the network extender. I don't think it's the phone, as it works fine after I get a half block from my house. The strange thing, is that I used to live in an area that was FILLED with wireless signals of all kinds, and have moved to an area that is less than one mile from the cell tower. I am currently using the DROID (the first one). I plan on upgrading to either the DROID 3 or DROID Bionic. My question to you guys is this: what network extender is best? I know Verizon only offers the one, at $250. There are others out there (like the Samsung for about $100). What's best for my phone? Pros? Cons? Any advice? Thanks.

Before you buy the extender, which I talked VZW into giving me free, you need to check your Internet upload speed. For the extender to work properly, you need at least 1Mbps of upload speed. Call your ISP and ask for the website to check your connection speed.

Did a speed test. I'm averaging about 120Mbps, so I'm in the clear for that phase.

I think the 120Mbps may be your download speed. It would be most unusual to have an upload speed that fast. With the extender it's the upload speed that's important.

I neglected to say that once I got my upload speed to 1Mbps, the extender works well. Before having it, we dropped every incoming and outgoing call. Going outside the house didn't help. WIth the extended we have virtually no dropped calls. Be aware that extender calls are considered roaming.
