Being a New Wireless Subscriber let me see if I can compile all of my questions in one Blogg

any help from any source would be appreciated,

First Off the phone I have selected is a Samsung Smooth Prepaid Plan with 0.99/day of use Core Plan

My Intended use of the phone is for occasional use and Emergency Response Capabilty incase I get trapped on Mount Hood.

Acronyms: what are the following Acronyms since they are no where listed in your reference Books and what are they used for briefly?:

1) What is a Mobile Identification # ?, What is it used for? and where on the phone or literature can it be found?

2) What is a Wireless # ?, What is it used for? and where on the phone or literature can it be found?

3) What is an Account Security # ?, why is it needed ?, and where on the phone or literature can it be found?

4) What is a Lockingcode # ? why is it needed? and where on the phone or literature can it be found?

1. ERI? what is this? and what is it used for?

2. Minute Beep? what is this? and what is it used for?

3. Call Connect? what is this? and what is it used for?

4. Service Change ? what is this? and what is it used for?

2) NAM ? Numeric Assignment Module. This connects the MIN (mobile identification number) to the physical ESN (electronic serial number) of the device.
3) TTY? Teletypewriter. This is a service used by the deaf and hard of hearing.
4) ERI? Enhanced Roam Indicator. Displays what network you're on; VZW if you're not roaming or "Extended" or "Roaming" if you're outside the normal coverage area.
*Please note: The NAM should ALWAYS be set to NAM1

The MIN is used for internal VZW purposes only, it identifies you internally on the VZW network. You cannot call this number and generally don't need it.

2) What is a Wireless # ?, What is it used for? and where on the phone or literature can it be found?
The wireless number is your actual phone number.
1. and 2. can be found in the Settings & Tools menu usually under Phone Info.

3) What is an Account Security # ?, why is it needed ?, and where on the phone or literature can it be found?
Just a general term, but most likely it's the code you use to verify your account with whenever you call in to customer service. This could be the last 4 of your social or a different number if you've chosen to set one up.

4) What is a Lockingcode # ? why is it needed? and where on the phone or literature can it be found?
The lockcode by default is the last four of your phone number. This is needed to get in certain security menu's in thep hone..etc. It's best not to change this.

       Automatic - B? what is this? what are its connections? Both of these settings allow you to roam off other towers when you're away from home. It's best to keep this on Automatic A.

This is used when pairing a Bluetooth headset. Once you've set up a BT headset this feature will allow you to usually reconnect the headset after being powered off.

    2. Minute Beep? what is this? and what is it used for? This is a signal you can turn on or off to beep 5 or 10 seconds before the next minute will be charged so you can end the call if you don't want to go over a certain # of minutes....you may or may not want or need this.
     3. Call Connect? what is this? and what is it used for? This is a little 3 note chime that sounds after you dial to signal to you that the call has connected. Again, you may or may not want or need this - I use it personally, but it's a personal preference.
     4. Service Change ? what is this? and what is it used for? When you travel, you may go in and out of digital, and extended service areas, or have no signal at all in some places. You can turn this alert on and your phone will beep when your service type changes. To me, this is more annoying than useful--I can look at the banner or status bar and see what type of signal I am getting.
These are various sound settings that you don't need to change. They won't impact your call or change the function of the phone.

1.) Where is the serial port on my Samsung Smooth? what type is it? or does it even have one? or how do you connect a Laptop computer up to the Samsung Smooth, my laptop is bluetooth capable, and I would like to connect to my cell phone, to my laptop,.

You make a Serial connection using Bluetooth. This would allow you to tether your phone as a modem for your laptop. There is an additional cost of $49.99/month to use this service. If you want this service or want to know more about it you can call Customer Service to get signed up for it.

If not for that purpose, what other reason would you want to connet the phone to the laptop?
