Let me just start off saying I am in college, so I am over 2 hours away from my parents, the owners of our family account. We are on a family minutes plan and I am the only smartphone, with my own 2GB tiered allowance.
My dad had to add himself to the family plan today because his work is no longer providing their cell phones. No big deal, he gets a discount through Verizon for working for them, so they switched the account ownership to his name when they added him to the plan. I was out and about as they were doing this searching for a new house to live in next semester, using my phone's GPS (on 3G) to figure out where I was going. All of the sudden, I get a text saying I had gone over my prorated allowance. I immediately shut off my GPS and went back to campus where I have wifi.
I reset my My Verizon log-in with the new account, intending on checking my data. Before today, our cycle ended on the 21st of each month. I signed in and it said our cycle ends today and that I had exceeded my .071GB prorated allowance. That is less than 5% of my usually monthly allowance. My plan was not changed at all besides the ownership changing. I was not informed that my account was being prorated for the day, let alone the fact that I was using the prorated amount as they were making the account change, forcing me to go over. Had I known, I would've gone to campus and printed off Mapquest instructions or something.
I guess my questions are: 1) Am I stuck with an overage charge for something I was not made aware of (or my parents for that matter)? 2) Am I going to have any data for the rest of our usual billing cycle?
