Purchases charging credit card for full amount instead of gift card

I've tried to purchase from the verizon online store multiple times with an e-gift card I received for transferring service. Everytime I try it charges the credit card instead of the gift card that I enter. How do I make a purchase with the gift card NOT my credit card?

We definitely want you to be able to use that eGift Card for your purchase! Are you trying this from a computer or your phone? What are you trying to purchase? What options do you see at the payment/checkout screen? Where are you seeing that it is using your credit card?
