I just received mine yesterday and used it most of the day with almost no problems. Now it constant;y disconnects, to the point where it is unusable. Anyone else run into this problem?
Thank you everyone for your extensive feedback on this issue. Blitz313, it appears you have done all you can as far as troubleshooting is concerned. At this point, we would need to speak to you directly, and file a Trouble Ticket to get our Network Repair Bureau involved. Please PM me with a number where you can be reached, and I will be happy to contact you to begin this process. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Thanks,
Define what you mean by disconnect... Are you talking about the WiFi signal dropping, getting disconnects (resets while browsing using it), or is the 3G/4G signal dropping.
The 3G/4G signal. Wifi hasn't been a problem, I can still access the admin page when the signal drops off.
I am widening if I am just in a bad location, even thought I am in the same location as yesterday. Is there a way to tell what the signal strength is?
The lights are not very useful for that.
Even the bars (or boxes) on the Admin page near the top is vague... however
you can go to Configuration -> Diagnostics and then select Modem Details and it will output a bunch of lines.
It will look something like below with the Signal for EVDO and LTE being what you are looking for.
MDN: +CENSOREDESN (hex): CENSOREDChannel: 0P_REV Indicator: 0PRL ID: 15010Band Class Type: 13ERI Version: 5Dormancy: FALSESignal - EVDO: 0Signal - LTE: 98Battery Level: 85Battery Charging: 1
Does your 4G light stay green or is it going red? Mine stays green but I lose internet of any kind, very annoying!
I have the same issue, mine stays green but no internet connection.
Seems like a device or sw issues with this device if others are experienceing the same issue.
Thanks to the community members for your input. Adding to what was stated, perhaps you can try a battery pull on the Droid X, followed by checking the data enabled feature to check and make sure your 3G data is enabled. Also try doing a *228 and selecting prompt 2 is as a good option on your Droid X. You can also use a reference at the support.vzw.com website where most of our knowledge base articles are viewable to assist with trying to resolve issues.
I am giving you a link to the website: http://support.vzw.com/clc/devices/index.html?p=5636&m
I'm having the same issue. WiFi signal is 5 bars but LTE signal is 110 according to the modem status area. I think it's associated with low signal.
Has anyone had any luck keeping this device connected for more than a few minutes? I have three people connected to the network and the device constantly shuts off. This is extremely aggrevating having to reboot the device every few minutes. I'm hoping someone has had some luck with this. I had read on another post that disabling the n-mode and changing the security type to WPA2 (AES) helped the stability, but that's definitely not the case.
I hope someone from Verizon/Samsung can speak to this because this is highly unacceptable for a $300 device.
Btw - it shut off on me twice while typing this.... ridiculous.
I upgraded my aircard 2 days ago to the Samsung 4G Hot Spot, had the same issues, constantly being dropped. Initially tech support told me to exchange it, which I did with no questions from store. I no more than got home before it began happening again. I was ready to call it quits, I am no early "adopter" so this was not worth it to me.
I gave tech support one more try and after an hour on the phone was finally transferred to the "4G" support group, more familiar with the new network and devices (no, I don't know why this didn't occur the first time I called...).
I again explained my symptoms: Getting knocked off the network a couple times an hour, replacing device, etc... It was then that she told me that since the device is on a metered plan (not unlimited) that it is preset to go dormant after 30 minutes of non-use.
She directed me to enter 192.168.1.1 in the browser bar. This takes you to the device admin site. Log in using your Samsung device password (under battery cover).
Go to "Configuration" tab at top of screen. Then click on "POWER" tab. You can change the "power off when idle" settings to NONE. Did this and saved settings.
I left the device up with my laptop connected to the internet all night to see if it had gone dormant when I got up. I had not, it was still connected.
So far, this seems to have fixed my problem.
Have you tried changing the "Power" setting to never go dormant? It is preset to go dormant after 30 mins of inactivity. Located under Configurations tab on admin site.
Got mine the day they came out. I bought it based on the 4G future service here (within the year hopefully) and the 802.11n. Worked fine I think for the first week...
Now, the 3G light stays lit - fine. Good signal - 3 bars or more consistantly. But - anywhere from 5 minutes in to 20 minutes into a session on the internet, my Macbook and Mini both crap out on the wireless signal from it. They lose the signal - drop all connection and then, when I try to reconnect - even forget the password to the network. Never seen that before. My wife has an old Mifi - and it works ok. Nothing like this.
I have tried everything:
- Took off security
- b/g only - turned off n
- Added MAC address filter for just my Macbook
- Hard reset back to factory
Nothing seems to keep a steady wireless signal to it. It's not the 3G signal I don't think. It's the 802.11. Very odd.
FWIW - the latency seems to have climbed as well since I got it. I did a speedtest at first and had latency in the 50ms range...now when it pings, I get 150 at best...usually 300 and sometimes a ton more.
Haven't done the firmware update yet since I don't own a PC, but will do it at work tomorrow. Not that anyone has to be, but I'm an IT administrator - this stuff it not foriegn to me. But this problem is similar to a channel conflict with too much wirless in the area....only issue is I live on a 600 acre farm. No wireless anywhere around, so that ain't it.
Will post if I find anything.
Uhhh, still having issues! Some days are good no drops, but today back to same old issues of good 4G (Green) singal but connectivity to the MacBook Pro keeps dropping. VZW claims that there are some known issues with 64-bit MAC's, have been instructed to DL and install the new update. Course need a PC to do it, luckily still have one left but after reading other posts seems this may not fix the issue.
sucks!
the firmware update fixed my problems
My data card drops out every 2 minutes or so with the latest firmware. What junk!
Constant disconnects with the internet. Constant disconnects with wireless. Frustrating device. Turned everything off. Start again and wireless connects and I can get to internet finally. Seems very flaky. The reset button is the thing I use most.
Today Firmware updated. Set the power setting to no turn off. Got worse.
Same location as usual, but no 4G today. And the 3G seems slower than I had with USB-760.
Now it is messed up with the internet again.
Wish the 30 day return was still in effect.
I did the WPA fix and that resolved the wireless connection cycling up and down.
Still, stuck in 3G mode, I think its is having that issue from other devices of not going back to 4G when available. The modem status shows EVDO has signal: 80 and LTE has signal: 107. Maybe bigger numbers aren't better for signal strength?
I am running a Java app that loses socket connectivity now and then. I don't see an interruption in secure browser sessions. But the socket is lost and the app doesn't have retry logic, probably for security reasons.
Better than it was four hours ago, but not up to what it should be.
Blitz, just a bit more information I've received from my technical team. It is possible the cause of the issue could be your security software on your PC. Firewalls and antivirus programs can sometimes cause frequent disconnects. Not sure if you want to try troubleshooting with either of these functions, but they could in fact be causing the problems.
Thanks again,
I don't know how this issue is now marked as "solved" - it's not.
I've upgraded the device, tried every possible setting with security, without security, etc....nothing seems to work. I still get consent disconnects. My wife has an old school 3G mifi and it works fine.
And I'm running OS X 10.6.7, but it disconnects my iPhone, iPad, Xbox and even a Windows Xp machine. Still kicking me off.
Calling the store today to see if I can swap this out for one of the new Verizon branded 4G mifi's that came out.
I don't think it's fair to mark this thread as solved, when there are clearly still issues. Just because the technical team there decideds it MIGHT be a firewall on the client machine or somthing...that doesn't mean it's solved.
Thanks willzzz99 for the information regarding firmware upgrade. I installed that last week and wanted to give it some time before posting again to see how things panned out. It's still been on and off, more good days than bad lately, but still not 100% consistent. It has been much better with the upgrade though.
I'd like to see if the new MiFi performs any better and I'll be fairly upset if it doesn't have any issues being stuck with this one now that my 14 days are up.
In reference to the posts made here by the Verizon reps - I don't think this could be due to my firewall and/or anti-virus. The problems I was encountering were not connectivity problems between the device and my machine, but the device staying online in general. The device itself would reboot, and I'd really hope that could not be caused by a connected PC.
Hope everyone else is having better luck with the new firmware upgrade too.
I currently have 11 of the Samsung SCH-LC11's and am working on testing them with our equipment before deploying them out. I have 5 of them set up connecting to Windows 7 machines. There is nothing special about our Windows 7 machines, pretty much out of the box as far as network settings go...
The computer maintains a connection just fine with the SCH-LC11, however, intermitently... sometimes frequent, somtimes after a few hours of use, it appears that the SCH-LC11 will lose connection with Verizon's DNS servers, thus not allowing you to browse pages.
I've updated the firmware, as indicated in this thread.... no changes and they are set to not power off automatically.
Sometimes rebooting both computer and SCH-LC11 will resolve it... other times it will not.
I'm not impressed so far! I can see problems with 1.... but every one that I am using is having the same issue! Clearly an issue somewhere on Verizon's end, not the end users side.
Anyone made any progress with this?
I've found that when I connect my MB Pro and also my iPhone it will disconnect.
I traded my old one in to see if that fixed the problem and the new one does it too.
SP
The firmware update seems to have fixed my issues. I was getting constant disconnects, and interestingly the device wouldn't let me change the wifi password for clients to connect. I now have consistent (3G) connectivity, and I have been able to change the wifi password to one of my choosing. Now let's just hope 4G returns soon...
I got mine 3 days ago and I am constantly losing my wifi signal. No light, no signal. I see the 3G or 4G light, but no wifi and my computer does not see the hotspot at that point. The only way I can clear it is to pull the battery.
Someone else in another thread said they have seen his in busy hotspot areas. I believe that may be an issue with mine, but mine also seems to work, in an area, but after timeout, or after powering off and back on, the device again has no wifi signal.
I think the stalls I've seen are DNS related. I changed up the DNS server to Open DNS and so far the stalls have abated. Open DNS's servers are 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222
I have the Wifi issue as well.
The symptom is that no blue wifi light, and no SID being broadcast. I have this problem whenever I'm in a hotel or airport where there are many available wifi networks. The Samsung seems to just refuse to transmit in locations where there are many different networks lit up. So, pretty much, this device doesn't work in all the places I need it to work - airports and hotels!
I took it into the Verizon store, and they verified that the device worked per their specfications, and told me that they had no issues reported AT ALL with the Samsung host spot. They refused to let me swap the device with the MiFi because I purchased it 17 days ago. This is particularly annoying since I thougth Verizon had a 30 day trial period, so I was willing to wait for the new firmware. I was surprised to learn they'd shortened it to 14 days.
I'm hosed now. The device doesn't work, and Verizon won't stand behind it, and I'm locked into a data capped contract for two years.
I had the same issue ... when connecting to just one device it's fine; multiple devices it drops the connection after like 2 minutes.
The issue is the device does NOT work with the default security settings you get on reset (or out of the box).
Here's what you do (that worked for me):
- reset
- connect with non-PC (I used my iPhone)
- go to the admin panel (192.168.1.1) and set the security DOWN to WEP 64
- network / wifi / manual configuration
- pick a new 5 digit security pin
- change 802.11 mode to b/g/n (optional)
- change SSID to what you like (optional)
- apply (will drop connection)
If your laptop doesn't re-ask for a password, you'll need to force your laptop to ask you for a password again (b/c it often remembers (stored) the old one).
On OSX you have to go to utiities and keychain access and delete the row for your saved SSID password to allow the computer to ask you for a new one.
This worked for me (thanks to VZT Tier 2 support for the help here).
Samsung owes VZW a fix but they don't know when it's coming.
I'm having the same issue. I updated the firmware and set power off to never.
So disappointed in this device!!!
Switch to the MIFI4510L if you can I had the SCH-LC11 and now have the MIFI4510L and love it , a world of difference the SCH-LC11 is junk
Had the 4G Mifi card ... couldn't deal with the fact you can't use it and USB charge it at the same time.
Also I found a huge difference in the radio ... w/ the MiFi I had to be very choosey where I put the card to get 4G with the Samsung I get 4G everywhere.
I was able to "fix" my frequent disconnects (I even had a problem where certain webpages (including the local University!) would cause an instant disconnect from the internet) by switching to an unsecure unencrypted local connection. Hardly a good option when I take it with me traveling, not to mention the multiple hotspot problem. Plus, there still seems to be one disconnect I can count on about ten to fifteen minutes into any connection, but then I'll usually be all right for the rest of the session, even if hours long.
I have a reliable mid seventies 3G signal strength at home (there will be no 4G in this area for years, likely), so that's fine -- although my old 3G MiFi could boast low sixties with rarely a good weather disconnect.
Tomorrow is the last day on my fourteen day return policy, and I am seriously thinking about trying to trade this unit in for a MIFI4510L, but I don't want to trade one set of problems for another. Can someone tell me if the MIFI4510L will run its WLAN if plugged in to a wall outlet, like my old MiFi? I know it doesn't when plugged in to a USB connection, but I can live without that.
Quick Edit: I did update my firmware to no noticeable difference.
I have the exact same issue at my work. Cannot connect to the device with either my Droid X or Archos 101 tablet. One runs Froyo and the other runs Gingerbread. Device works great at home, at the gym and even in my car.
Spoke to my buddy who is a Level 2 wireless tech for AT&T, not the mobile division, and he mentioned they might have a wifi hotspot de-authentication system which can keep mobile hotspots from functioning. Was not the case. I can setup my DX as a mobile WIFI hotspot and connect to it just fine so that obviously is not the cause.
If you have found a solution please reply back. I am going to call them tomorrow and see about exchanging the device for the other 4G version they have out. Have had it for over 30 days but will reference your post and any others I find. Hopefully they don't play hardball but I expect they will.
I purchased my Samsung sch-lc11 4 days ago and am having the same disconnect problems every 10-15 min. I updated the firmware and spent 1 hr 30 min with Verizon tech support and the only solution they had was to switch devices to the Novatel MIFI4510L.
Im in the same boat - Disconnects are roughly 2-5 minutes. I have opened numerous tickets with VZW only to find out they get closed without my knowledge with random reasons. The last ticket was closed telling me to update the firmware to EC31 but had already done this prior to opening the ticket.
What's even worse is I have 2 of these devices and they both are doing the same thing. Its verys frustrating to pay all this money and not get decent service. I to use a VPN and with the disconnects being so constant the VPN is worthless.
I hope this helps some of you.
I found the solution to connection dropping problem after 1 week of research and trial/errors.
Step 1: Call verizon support at 866-221-4096.
Step 2: Press 6 for MIFI device.
Step 3: They will ask you to remove SIM card, wait 10 seconds, then put it back in.
After doing this, it never dropped again. The tech person said by removing the SIM, it resets the cell towers it's connected to. He even called me 15 minutes later to make sure. He did say that he did something on his side too so not sure if calling is required.
ilocano,
Still working for you? I've had this device and have issues.
Scott
Any solution for this problem? I'm on my 2nd SCH-LC11 with the same WiFi disconnects, random power-downs and reboots. I was told both my devices had the latest firmware installed.
I am having issues as well. I haven't had my device replaced yet, still on the todo list. But I have an entirely new account and SIM on the same hardware and I can go great for 20-30min and I have to power cycle. Some days I can watch it reset itself over about the same period as well. Any help on this would be useful. LTE is fast when it works, but I feel like I spend more time resetting the mifi than using it.
I've had the card for enough time to say it has solved my problem. Haven't had a drop out since.
I have the same problems, and I've spent hours trying to solve Verizon's issues with this device. I'm contacting the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General of NJ. Seem the only course of action since they have sold a device that does not work and they refused to help me fix.
