Other carriers are giving unlimited data or unlimited streaming on less expensive plans than Verizon. I have been a multi-line post-pay customer for greater than 7 years and you gave me 1Gb bonus data. Thanks a lot Verizon!
Maybe you should look into more detail about those other carrier's unlimited data and streaming limitations. You can't just hear unlimited and think it is truly unlimited. Read the fine print. Tell us which offers you are looking at.
If you want truly unlimited data your kind of out of luck getting anything that's cheaper than Verizon and if you find a carrier who has it let me know.
On the flipside Verizon didn't HAVE to give you anything for free if you want to look at it that 1 gb of data your getting for free would usually cost about $15.00 a month so even if you only get it for 2 years that's $360.00 worth of data Verizon just gave to you for nothing.
What unlimited plans? All of the base plans throttle specific types of traffic (most data intensive). Video is throttled so the quality doesn't exceed 480p, as well as various limitations on tethering. So I fail to see where this service is "un-limited", when all it has are limitations on how you can use your service and the max speed they will provide you for such specific services unless you pay more.
Verizon on the other hand, you pay for the data you want and you use it how you want, without Verizon throttling it based on the type of traffic it is. When you're out of data you can use safety mode to avoid any overages, and stay connected without incurring any additional fees other than your base plan and line access costs. Yes safety mode does throttle your connection, but Verizon does not limit how much tethering data you're able to use, or what speeds your video traffic is able to be streamed at. You pay for data, you use it how you want to use it.
Of course, with the comparisons people make with these unlimited plans by other providers, technically with Safety Mode now all of Verizon's plans are "unlimited", you use as much data as you want and then get throttled when you're out of your "high speed" data.
So I did go online and do some price checks. With T-Mobile, on one line, you're looking at about $95 per month, before you add a device payment and that's not including a $5.00 auto-pay discount, so you can bring that down to $90.00, that's including the $20 add-on to stream video content in HD.
With Sprint, you're just slightly less, unlimited plan, with HD video streaming, no auto-pay discount you're at $85, if you agree to do auto-pay, that can be reduced to $80.
And for one line with Verizon, you're at an 8GB plan for $70, plus line access which is $20, gives you a total of $90 (equal to T-Mobile after you get T-Mobile's auto-pay discount, otherwise T-Mobile is $5 more). There is also a promo where you get an extra 2GB of data, per line, so that 8GB of data is increased to 10GB. So with 10GB of LTE data, you're at $10 more than Sprint, or the same price of T-Mobile. It's important to note, that Verizon allows you to stream your video content in HD, so to give a fair comparison you need to enable those features on a competitor's plan, which they charge $20 for.

This is only when adding a new line or upgrading an existing line. This is NOT just because. So if someone is not eligible for a new device (or doesn't add a new line) after switching to the Verizon Plan they would not be eligible for the promotion of 2 extra GB.
Actually not true. They gave me the promo on an old line that hasn't been upgraded in over a year.
Don't get me wrong, I like Verizon- have had other carriers in the past and for my travel patterns, Vz has the best coverage. I am off-contract and well aware of the fine print and games carriers play. Vz is no different with fine print.
AT&T is offering unlimited that throttles back after 24Gb. I don't ever see myself using even that much mobile data.
The 1Gb data gift was one time only, not monthly.
