Using Verizon's wireless 4G LTE router for home internet

Hello, I hope this process posts my question in the appropriate forum.

A landline internet connection isn't available at my home, and I plan to use a cellular connection to provide internet service at my home. The logical solution would be to purchase Verizon's wireless 4G LTE router (NOVT1114V), but I'm struggling to see the benefit of doing so rather than using (say my tablet) as a mobile hot spot. Does the router pick up a stronger cell signal than a table or phone? What other benefits may there be? Other than the obvious ones noted in the router's description on Verizon's website.

The only difference that I can think of is that it obviously doesn't need the tablet or phone to be present or not in use for it to work, not to mention plugged in or draining the battery of said device. Otherwise, it is (in theory, if on the same plan) pulling from the same data allowance or data prioritization limits that may be in effect. It won't get a stronger signal, (though all devices have different antenna types and may connect to the network in a different manner) generally speaking so other than having a device dedicated to data for the reasons mentioned above, I don't see any other major differences but someone else might.

Using the router may be best since the router is designed to be plugged in 24/7 unlike the tablets. My tablet from another provider will not hold a charge long as a result of continuous use of the hotspot feature while leaving it plugged in to keep it from dying. I believe I cooked the battery and I would not recommend doing as I did

I have the Home LTE "router" from Verizon, and there are definitely some benefits over using the hotspot from your phone or tablet. I don't know if it necessarily gets a better signal, but I think you can get an additional antenna for it (not sure, mine gets good signal. The router is easy to set up and you can connect all of your home devices to it (I think up to 10). It stays on and I've never had it drop service in the few months I've had it. You don't have to kill your phone/tablet battery running a hotspot and connect your devices every time you want to use them. I don't use the phone part so I can't comment on that.

Now for the bad. This is still Verizon's "unlimited" service. Meaning you get 10gb of data, then it is slowed to almost unusable speeds. Mine has been well below the 3G speeds advertised. I bought mine when the "unlimited" plan first came out, and the sales rep flat out told me the Home LTE router was not considered a hotspot and would not be affected by the 10gb limit, so I jumped on it. I was also told I would pay $20 more a month to add it to my account. Both were lies.

Adding the Home LTE router is basically adding 10gb of data to your account for about $50 more a month, with the advantage of being able to keep all your devices connected without having to use your phone/tablet. This would be an outright awesome product if it wasn't for Verizon's shady business practices.
