VZAccess Manager for MiFi4510L?

I'm caught between a rock and a hard place. I can't get on My Verizon without them sending me a temp password in a text message. I have a MiFi4510L, not a phone. Customer Service says I need to use VZAccess Manager to be able to read the text message. I cannot find a version of VZAccess Manager that supports the 4510L.

Can anybody help?

That's correct our chat team would not have access to demo accounts but there is a special department can. My apologies for mentioning VZ Access Manager as an option. There's no mention if or when it will be supported in the future. So for demo lines, the only option would be to call #DATA from a VZW phone or 800-922-0204 at least until the trial period is over. You then can talk to the customer service that's handling your demo line about other possible options. Call the 800# then enter your MiFi's wireless number to be routed directly to them. VZAccess Manager is not compatible with the 4510L so you cannot recieve a text message. My recommendation is you call Verizon support and have them mail you a password. Do not trust the automated system. Call them and tell them to mail one out to you. This sucks and I complained about it so you just have to wait, like I still am. The 4510L is a great device though.

Or see if you can force them to create drivers for 4510 so it can be used through vzaccess manager and therefore can be tethered. :-) that would be great, would also be easiser to check usage as now you have to log into myverizon to check usage I beleive unless someone knows other way, if I go over due to this I will be one unhappy puppy....

Thank you for your responses. I understand where you all are coming from. When any device that is unable to receive text messages, you can still register. As SparkedFire mentioned the solution is to contact customer service to have your temporary password mailed to you within 5-7 days. You then can go back to www.verizonwireless.com/myverizon and complete the process. I helped answer a similar post about to register the Xoom tablet, click here

deloswilbur, I have a couple of suggestions to help ease your mind about overages. In My Verizon, you can set up email and text alerts when your data usage reaches 50%-100%. Once you are signed in, click Parental Controls in the My Services menu > Data Usage Alerts. On the go, call 800-922-0204 from any phone or 611/#DATA, enter your wireless for your modem to hear data usage details.

Do you know if it is possible to activate an MyVerizon account for an evaluation/trial MiFi 4510L? I tried to work with Verizon Chat support on this issue but was turned away because I did not know what the phone number was for my MiFi. Perhaps I wasn't asking the correct questions?

I wanted to check out the warning/alert messages that you mentioned to see if they could be administrated from our central office or not.

Hi John_Getzke, your MiFi device is activated with a wireless number to use our network just like a wireless phone. You wouldn't have known that unless you have a order receipt or bill. You can find the wireless number assigned by doing the following:

• While on WiFi, open an internet browser and go to http://192.168.1.1

• Enter your password in the login field (default is the password found on the back of device under the battery cover ).

• Click Advanced > Diagnostics and look for Phone No.

When you say trial, are you one of the trial users from the Google IO conference? If so, those lines are activated under a demo account for the trial purpose and you won't be able to complete My Verizon registration for your own login.

If you are trialing during the 14 day return period, you can register once you follow the steps above to get your wireless number and go to www.verizonwireless.com/myverizon

Either way, you can still monitor your data usage by calling 800-922-0204 or download VZ Access Manager at www.vzam.net

Thank you for your feedback and steps. It sounds like the MiFi that I have was assigned to me under a Demo account, although I did not recieve if from the Google IO conference. The number that is displayed on my diagnostics page is the same as the one that was printed on a label on the outside of my packaging. Verizon chat support told me that number was not in thier system so it must not be possible for me to register for a myVerizon account at this time.

I will download VZAM and try the 1 (800) number instead.

Going off the original posting in this thread there does not appear to be a version of VZAM that is compatible with the MiFi 4510L. The VZAM I downloaded is unable to detect the MiFi 4510. There was not a classification for MiFi when VZAM prompts me to identify my device.

Gina, could you clarify which version of VZAM you intend for us to download if one is available? By the looks of the matrix on the VZAM site the MiFi 4510L does not appear to be a supported device. Perhaps an update is coming to correct that issue?

The only real option that I have now is to contact the 1(800) number.

In the PDF users guide that I downloaded, on page page 60 it is giving instruction for installing drivers and updates for the MiFi4510. NOTHING like that happens. Does anyone know what they are talking about? It seems that I was told by a service rep that there are no drivers to install but then one also told me I could connect while tethered. WRONG! My unit seems to be working okay, I just decided to read the manual and found this bit and it doesn't seem to fit.

There are no drivers/software/firmware updates available for the MiFi 4510L. The documentation is misleading although it might be correct if Novatel releases something. The USB cable is only used for charging right now.

Using the MiFi 4510L while teathered is also misleading. There is no true "teathered" feature. The MiFi 4510L does not act like a USB Modem when connected via the USB cable. Most laptops do not have the correct power specifications to allow the MiFi to broadcast and charge at the same time. Instead, the MiFi will disable its broadcast and only charge while USB connected. The only way to connect to this MiFi is via Wireless.

Thank you MarMer for your inquiry. Looking at page 60 of the user guide, it spoke of factory resets or powering off the device of which is good to do like rebooting a computer. However, page 61 does refer to updating the firmware on the device. What the page refers to is Upgrading the firmware. The steps provided where put there in the event later on there was a new release of firmware to then how to obtain the update if needed. Perhaps you have the current version of the firmware on your device. Please use the information used on page 50 for checking your device for the current version. You can try to access the Advanced Menu which includes the Diagnostics screen. As of this posting the most current version is 2.16.03.

As of this week, there is actually a new version, at least that is what "it" told me when I connected earlier today. The same scenario plays out. I use the Mifi and connect to mifi.admin and it tells me there is an upgrade available. I download the update to my Windows Laptop. I unpack the zip file and I run the executable and that seems to be fine. Then after the package is done installing, it tells me to connect the device via USB and after that nothing happens. I tried it twice now. Any suggestions?

I am having the same problem. I downloaded the update, unpacked the zip file, ran the executable that was unzipped. It ran two installation steps. I don't remember the exact step names. However, after the second step which I believe was updating Broadband drivers, the program asked me to insert the mifi device into my machine. I had no idea how to do that. Did it want me to connect the mifi device using a USB cable? I didn't think that it did.

I hit cancel. And now, my device is really messed up. When I try to access web pages, the browser gets redirected to the mifi.admin page and I am asked to download and install the update.

I'm not sure what I should do. I guess I can call customer support. If that doesn't work, I might try exchanging the device for one that's not been "upgraded."

Either there is a problem with the upgrade instructions or I need another cable or I just don't know how to read. I thought that I knew how to read. Any insights would be appreciated.

If you read this before you upgrade, you might want to consider carefully how you do this. For example, make sure that you have a backup Internet connection. If the MIFI device is your only connection, you might have trouble getting support (I am using my main Internet connection as I write this).

I have had an issue for about a week. I tried calling support and was on my minutes for nearly 30 minutes. Went to local store, they knew nothing about it... they called tech support they seemed to be confused,but finally told the store rep that they are having problems with this and the password is default... they pulled the battery, said it should work and if it doesn't, just bypass the upgrade problem. "Install Later" option - NICE SOLUTION to have repeat everytime you log in.

1. It would be nice to be informed that one must upgrade - perhaps an email notice?. 2. should be given clear instructions 3. Reps at store should be informed of upgrades. 4. Reps in store should know enough about it to correct the problem 5. should have a solution that works... keep getting "CONNECT DEVICE" but no solution. NEW Users/Owners (or any) shouldn't have to waste days trying to get a workable soultion.

AMEN!!! This is rediculous! I finally got tired of trying all the recomendations (thank you all BTW, I'm too old to be quite as tech savvy as some of you), and called tech support today. They had me erase cookies n internet files, then take the back cover off and remove the batt, then replace, then push the reset button w/ a paperclip - to no avail. Their solution? They're sending me a new one already upgraded. What a pain. Fortunately I have access to my brother's PC. Ditto on the previous comment -HELLOOO, Tech Support, ARE YOU READING THESE??

to upgrade your device use the password admin. follow the instructions. don't forget to double click the line when your temporary files comes up. this should start the wizard for your download. when it gets to the part that says finish. click on finish and a prompt comes up and says plug in device and click ok to continue. you will need a usb cable to plug into your mifi and then plug into your computer. once you do this click ok and follow the instructions. this takes a little while. the usb cable i'm talking about should have come in the box with your mifi. it is marked(use for downloads only). my box came with this cable and another one for charging my mifi. hope this helps. it took me awhile to figure it out. once i found the usb cable in my box then everything worked.

If you need to upgrade your device, first you need to reset the device from the back using a pin then run the new software.

I had same problem as others. admin did not work for a password either.

I went to this link and followed instructions for success. No more connect now everytime, etc. Didn't want to remove SIM either.

I don't have 4G here, only 3G and it seems to work much smoother! Like a champ.

When you get to the link below click on the Software Update Instructions(pdf) on the right side of the screen . Took ten minutes.
