During this outage will calls be going to voicemail? Or will the be totally lost? What are the callers hearing when they call us during this outage?

My prepaid phone worked until 9am EST today where as my boyfriends phone had no service at all. I used a landline to call my phone and my sisters phone and she has no service either (and she has a 2yr contract.) all i got was a busy signal.

i called the customer service..automated all it said was we are having technical difficulties try again later and hung up....this is very frustrating.
They said it could take up to two more hours....nice, huh? And no announcement.....
all i get now when i dial is dead air before i was getting a busy signal from my phone and its acting like i have made a call...grrr better fix it soon t
Garuantee their will be no credits, I am a new customer and already thinking of switching carriers...Good job Verizon!

I'm so very sorry to hear that your prepaid device is not working! This morning, we performed a two hour system wide maintenance update for all prepaid customers. The system started at 7am Central Time and ended at 9am. In order to get your phone back working to optimal conditions, you will need to dial *228 and then choose option 1 to get your phone updated to the new services! If your phone does not work automatically, that's nothing to worry about. Sometimes it can take up to an hour for the new system to register on the device, so a little wait is normal. I'm very sorry for any inconveniences that this may cause, and we do appreciate you being part of our Verizon Wireless family!

I just did the upgrade through *228 option 1 ... then rebooted my phone. About 10 minutes later my phone started working again....

I cheated and got through to a live person by using a non-prepaid verizon number. then made them transfer me. the person i spoke with said this would last 3-4 hours after saying this had been going on 3-4 hours. Nobody has a clue when this will be fixed but i expect to be credited for this.

I dialed the *228 and did the reactivation thing but it's still not working.. despite the fact that it said 'you're phone has been successfully reactivated' and restarted itself.

iv reprogrammed mine about 6 times i have service but i cant call out to pay my bill bc my phone ran out lastnight idc if my phone doesnt work i am just going to be ****** if i spent 75 dollars and i cant pay my phone with it bc iv tried too many times

well i got my bill paid but i still cant call or text i texted my gf wifi to wifi and had her try to call me and nothing i need my phone for my job i cant believe they wouldnt put something out there saying that they have a problem they better get it fixed soon because there are alot of people out there loosing alot of money
How can they send you a text to a phone that the network is currently down on? You act like they PLANNED to have the entire network turned off.
Sounds like you need to invest in something a bit more reliable than a prepaid/pay as you go option for your business. There's a reason it's so cheap compared to more reliable (Contract/Postpaid) Options.
Thank you for this info. I have a prepaid phone in Northern CA. I called *611 at 10:15AM PST and after a long wait was advised that the prepaid accounts were down due to a problem following a system upgrade. Did a *228 upgrade after reading the posts. I got a pop-up message immediately saying that my roaming had been updated. I was able to successfully make voice calls after that. I didn't have to push "Option 1". It was automatic after *228. Thank you for the info because I didn't get this info from any other source at Verizon. Am hoping this this isn't an on going problem because it will make saving money on prepaid futile.
Other companies, such as credit card companies, warn you when there will be a system upgrade or maintenance. It helps to have a heads up in case something goes wrong like today.

Verizon Wireless's claim and JD Power awards I might add are for it's postpaid services. To compare, 4GB data with unlimited talk and text that you get on the $70 prepaid plan costs $110 on a postpaid account, that's over 50% less you're paying with prepaid. Since Verizon Wireless prepaid actually uses completely different, and significantly less amount of towers, has it's own support line, operates as a separate business and everything, it's not included in what has Verizon Wireless all it's awards for the best, more reliable coverage. That'd be the postpaid services you're referring to.

Which marketing genius decided it would be a grand idea if they cut off prepaid service, disabled the support for them when dialing from a land line, preferring rather to whine about technical issues and hang up on them? REALLY? I don't have a contract with you now, WHY exactly do you suppose that is??? Now I'm going to hear from all sorts of people that if I HAD a contract, I wouldn't be dumped on like this.
