Maui has great coverage and there is no extra charge for service. As a great U.S. state, it is domestic service just as if you were in Lebanon, Kansas (center of the contiguous U.S.) with no additional charges or roaming fees for calls, text or data.

I don't know why people think alaska or Hawaii are different as the wireless plans promote US coverage and they are part of of the US. The only place I would be leary of is PR but I've been there with no trouble, and with my T-Mobile device I can travel anywhere in North America and be fine. I think VZ offers those plans now.

Yes, it is amazing how often this question comes up.
You are correct, with the new Verizon Plan, if you have 18 GB or more of data on your plan, it includes Canada and Mexico roaming for no additional charge.

Usually when I see these questions for Hawaii, many times I mention our forum resident Hawaiian to provide the real world answer. That would be you Tidbits!
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I live on Maui and my service is terrible. I drive from Kahana to Kahului daily. I play internet videos to listen to audio on the drive. In that 45 minute stretch I might get 5 minutes of uninterrupted play. I hear half a sentence of the audio and it will stop. Then restart. Then stop. The. Whole. Time. Every. Day.
There is only one highway to the other side of the island. It is largely unpopulated. In addition to the problem with data service, all Maui residents know that you can't have a full phone conversation or dependably-delivered text messages on that stretch of road either. There are no "call boxes" so cell service should be good enough to call first responders should there be an emergency.
It may have been better in 2016 when you wrote your reply but in 2021 it stinks.

You should have no trouble while in Maui. This is from my experience 6 months ago, and unless something drastic changes you should be fine.
