crazy unknown text messages

Question

Is anyone else getting strange text messages from unknown numbers?  This started yesterday and I have received texts from at least 5 different numbers.  I do not know any of them, but they are acting like I have sent something to them.  It is always a phone# then @vtext.com.  I contacted Verizon and they told me to block the number and that they would report this to a higher level.  Verizon called one of the numbers and a man answered and said he was getting messages from someone (he did not know) to chat.  Verizon also said I was not the first person to call them about this.

As an avid texter myself, I understand how concerning it must be to receive those strange messages. Let's get to the bottom of this.
