month-to-month contract

I'm trying to cancel my verizon service. I was just wondering if anybody knows if I pay my bill that is due on the 29th will that extend my contract another month. My current contract ends on Feb. 1st. I'm trying to avoid an early termination fee. Thanks!

If your current contract end date is February 1st, then you should cancel the line at the earliest the next day by calling customer service or visiting on store or porting out your number to another carrier. Your billing cycle is usually a few days later then your contract end date. You should review your latest bill for the billing cycle end date. When you cancel the phone, you won't be pro-rated for the remainder of the current billing cycle. You will be charged for the whole month and you will receive that final bill in the mail.

I have looked into the plans Verizon have and compared it with a few others. Unfortunately, we can get a better deal with 1200 minutes, and unlimited data & web through another carrier. We will be calling tomorrow (2/1) to port our number to the next carrier.
