How do i switch to prepay?

My contract ended few days ago, how do i switch to prepay? Or is there a need, i saw somewhere mentioning that after the contract is up there isn't a early term cancel fee, does that mean i can just continue like normal and cancel any time with out a giant penalty?

No need to go PrePay unless you want one of the Pre-Pay plans.

If your contract has expired you are now on a month to month agreement and can cancel anytime without an early termination fee.

Its when you upgrade to the new phone that the new 2 year contract starts correct?

That's right as in exchange for the discounted cost on a phone you would be agreeing to a two year contract extension. If you don't upgrade or agree to some other promotion that extends your contract, you're good.

Not always, but in most cases yes.

If you upgrade at subsidized pricing (e.g. buying a new iphone 5s for $199.99 + $30 upgrade fee) you get a new 2 year contract.

You can always subscribe to Verizon Edge though, in which case you don't get a 2 year contract, but a 2 year payment plan (same thing more or less). The only difference is if you cancel with the edge plan you have to pay the remaining balance for the phone (which could be higher than the early termination fee).

Or you can upgrade, and pay full retail price, or upgrade with a phone you purchased elsewhere used, while this can be the most expensive up front, this will allow you to get a different phone without extending your contract.

There is also a loyalty plan Verizon offers which features unlimited talk and text, and 2 GB of data for $60 plus taxes and fees. This plan requires a 1 year agreement.
