Upon my return from a recent cruise I received a bill from Verizon which included $1,200 of text messaging fees charged to my teenage daughter's phone. I have an Unlimited Verizon plan and purchased the most expensive onboard Carnival wifi package for the phone in question. Her phone was in Airplane Mode, she connected to a web based game site which includes ability to chat with other players (friends back home). I don't understand the basis of the Verizon charges as the texts should not have used the Verizon network in onboard wifi mode. During my weeklong cruise I was never notified by Verizon that my daughter's phone was incurring over a thousand dollars in unexpected fees. We cruised this same itinerary on the same Carnival ship only four months prior without any such charges. Thus far Verizon insists that the charges are valid, without providing any details. I admit to being confused.
