my brother ended his contract and gave me his phone to use as a prepaid (its an env2). he tells me he turned it into a prepaid phone but honestly hes not that reliable and its hard to believe anything he says(i have my reasons). i noticed when he gave me the phone it still had all the contacts and the same phone number, but when i try to use it it gets ahold of verizon or something. should a just converted phone have all the same contacts and same number.
another thing i still dont have a prepiad card but im getting one shortly, how do i get the messaging bundle.(i want to get the basic plan with the $10 messaging bundle)
any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Thank You.

I've always been post-paid (contract) account, so I'm not that familiar with all the nuances of pre-paid. I CAN answer a few of your questions, and I'll leave it up to the pre-paid experts here to answer the others!

If it was a contract phone, and simply deactivated (the phone number is now being used on another phone), it would behave this way. Our old phones that we keep as spares still show the last number that was used on that phone, and the contacts are still all there too. Unless the phone is "wiped", all that information stays. Trying to use the phone connects you to Verizon because the phone needs to be activated to be used.

As far as getting it to work on a pre-paid account, you can call CS (888-294-6804 for prepaid) and ask. The ENv2 is able to be used as a prepaid phone, and i'm sure CS can set you up with what needs to be done.

Yes the Env2 will work as a prepaid if it has been set up as prepaid. If the phone is still an active account the phone number would still be there along with the contracts. He needs to cancel or deactive the phone and then you can get a new phone number. There are two prepaid text plans $10.00 unlimited Verizon to Verizon texting plus 250 texts to other contracts. $20.00 text package unlimited to all carriers. The price is for 30 days on both plans. Picture messages are included with the packages. If you have doubts about the phone call Customer Service at 1-800-294-6804

Go to the Menu then click on to Setting and Tools - Go to Display Settings, then to Balance Display - they you have a choice to hide the the display or show the display that is not on a contract phone.

You can call Verizon, give them the ESN (usually printed behind the phone's battery) and ask them about it's status. They should tell you if it's still attached to an account.
