I am really beginning to think that Verizon Wireless is forcing people to either pay online, pay via the app, or pay at a kiosk. Pre-COVID, my Verizon Wireless mail-in payments were being processed in 3 to 4 business days -- never late at all. Once COVID hit, out of the stack of bills that I mail in, Verizon Wireless is always the only one that takes 2 to 3 weeks to process regardless how early I mail it off before the due date. I could send a payment 3 states further away from them, and that payment will process way before Verizon's. It's not on my end, it's not my mail carrier because if that was the case, all of the other bills mailed in the same stack would not have made it to their respective destination within 3 to 5 business days regardless of where I mail it in the country. I honestly don't believe that they have someone checking the Verizon Wireless P.O. Box every day. Maybe once a week, but not more than that. This is ridiculous because then it's like "you" the customer are at fault --- check w/your carrier. Um, then why did other bills make it to where they were addressed? Pay online -- well, if I prefer to pay w/cash or a check, not my problem that the darn kiosk machine closest to me is always having payment issues where you can only use a credit card to pay.

We can definitely understand your frustration with this, because, as a consumer, it would concern us too. Please know Verizon is not trying to force you todo anything you do not wish to do, however, certain payment methods can be processed easier than others. Due to COVID-19, our staffing has changed, we sincerely apologize for any delays and thank you for your patience and understanding while we work around and during this pandemic. If you have any concerns or questions, please let us know, we are here for you 24/7, so we can assist. *Lisa

Even before Covid, no one should be mailing in checks in this age. Paying online takes less than a minute to process/give a confirmation.

i switched jobs and was unemployed for almost three months. i fell behind on my bill. i worked with a charity in my hometown, and they offered to clear my balance and send an extra $100 to put me a month ahead. i was so relieved. the volunteer at this (very small and local) charity asked me all my account details, and i gave her the number for cust service. they mailed a $395 check that day. this was now almost a month ago. i’ve spoken to customer service many times, trying to track this payment down. nobody can tell me even if they’ve received the envelope, much less when it might be applied to my account. i was given an extension, but it expires in just a few days. then i’ll have no phone for work, and my son’s ipad, used for school, will become a paperweight. i hear many folks complaining about mailed paper checks taking an *eternity* to process and post. CS reps deny this, i suppose all these people here and on reddit/elsewhere are making it up? can *somebody* please go and open the mailbox, grab my payment, and process it please? i was so blessed to receive this help, and now it looks like we will be disconnected anyway because for some reason Verizon simply ignores $400 payments. this phone has never been disconnected for non-payment. i’m quite worried, and nobody at verizon has any answers except “there’s no way for us to locate it” and “it was probably lost in the mail”
i NEED someone, from verizon, with the capacity to solve this problem. how long is it taking anyone else here to pay by mailed check? because a month is too long. i’ll probably have a birthday before it’s processed. so disheartening; please help me!

ryancafferty, we're sorry to hear about the issues you've having with the check. We never want to cause issues with your service. Have you tried reaching out to the charity and asking them to cancel and re-issue the check?

there are scores of folks on reddit - here too - stating that it’s taking 20-30+ days to process a paper check *once it arrives*
why on earth would i want to wait *another* month‽ i can’t! my service will be off and i’d probably be in collections if i took that suggestion.

I like paying by check because if some company or business jacks up my account I can tend to it with a customer service phone call. I have been burned many times by business this way. Paying by check may be old fashioned but it leaves me more in control. Why don't they offer to send me a bill by email or even by text? Then I could SEE the amount before agreeing to pay it. I realize they spend a lot of money on mailing bills but there IS a solution. To me using 12 stamps and envelopes a year is worth it!
