I am so frustrated with porting my number. No one warned me about how long porting takes with ZERO service from Verizon. I sit on hold for hours. I completely regret switching. I wish I would have looked on these community forums in advance so I would know how awful it is to switch to Verizon

I've personally done ports to Verizon and have had the number transferred in working within the same call. You've dealt with either an unfortunate system error or people who had no idea what they doing..
All a port takes is account number, transferpin/account pin and a form that takes less a minute to fill.

I came back to Verizon, but got the prepaid account. Since then I cannot send or receive text messages and sporadically when calling a number, i get a message that says "call cannot be completed as the called party is temporarily unavailable." I have spent at least 25-30 hours the last 4 days with Verizon tech support and Verizon store people and no one can fix the problem. What am I to do?????

Michb111, yikes! We are alarmed by this post & we surely hope that you've been helped. Porting a number over shouldn't be frustrating at all. Allow us to make sure everything is taken care of. You can always check the status of your port by clicking here https://www.verizon.com/switch-to-verizon/ A port can take 4-24 business hours to complete your transfer. However, if there is anything that doesn't match (such as a PIN number from your previous provider), that can sometimes cause a longer wait. Not sure if that is what is causing the port to take longer or not. Our Port Center can be reached at 888-844-7095. Their hours are Sundays 9am-9pm CT & Monday - Saturday 7am-11am CT. Does this information help? Alicia_VZW

I agree wholeheartedly with this user. I was in the store for 3 hours initially. Now ive talked to customer service for an aggregate of 6 hours trying to get this figured out. It takes less time for brain surgeons to remove half of someone's brain than this is taking. And they have the gall to have their reps sell you stuff (international data, home device protection) as they take no ownership of your issue. Really regret switching now. I'm paying for a phone line that doesnt even get phone calls and wasting all my time talking to a million different reps. And instead of compensating you for all of this waste and poor service they try to get you to buy more. Not my circle of competence but please someone disrupt this industry

Ditto to all the above! Switched to Verizon 6 days ago and still no port or verified text! Jumped all the hoops and provided all the info requested of both carriers. Endless hours with tech support, been hung up on, no reply on chat lines, three way call and never a return call as promised! Gosh, just an simple honest answer or explanation would suffice. Why can't these companies perform a port and build some credibility for customers? I have tried to be patient and not be a a.hole and should have just spent the dollars with a better company. If I would have know this is how VZW welcomes it's new customers, believe me I would have! Ridiculous business service and maybe someday the FCC will stop this foolishness!

I have been trying since May 25 to get my number ported from AT&T. I've spent countless hours on the phone and chat. Friday June 2 while I was on the phone with the port center (again) and my att number got cut off and I got an email from them saying my number was no longer associated with my user id. I was hoping that was a good sign, but it is still not on my verizon account. verizon somehow got it to their prepaid service instead of postpaid! I was told it would be straightened out by today. This has been a total nightmare and beyond frustrating.

I switched from ATT on Wednesday 6/28/23 as a new customer to Verizon. I brought my parents over too but they havenโt had service since then. I had my own issues with the eSIM that took 8 hours of troubleshooting and no service in the end. They went in person to a Verizon store and walked away with no service. What is worse is that there is a first time $400 bill for being a new customer with 2 additional lines. And there is no compensation for the time wasted and the frustration all this caused. Why would anyone want to switch?? Why would I even want to stay here if this is the service a new customer gets?
Itโs 2023, technology has come a long way. Porting a number should not be this difficult since switching carriers and keeping your number has been asking since I was a kid.

Sorry to hear your port is stuck in limbo. Depending on who you're porting out from, it can take up to 48 hours for a port to finalize. The first thing I'd try is to contact your old carrier to check if there was some problem with releasing your number. If it turns out the issue is on Verizon's end, the Porting Department can be reached at 888-844-7095 (call tomorrow during business hours, as it is Memorial Day as I write this post and doubt anyone will answer today). Most of the time if a port gets stuck with the new carrier, it's a provisioning or syncing issue.
I'm not a Verizon employee, just another customer trying to help.
