Stuck in SOS mode

For the last 6 weeks or so, coverage in my area has gotten terrible. I understand towers were being updated and were supposed to be completed by June 1. But, that’s not happened and it’s gotten worse. I’ve even gotten a new phone sent to me (under warranty), and gotten new SIM and eSIM cards. But, it’s the same issue. All of my Verizon coworkers and students are having the same issues I’m having. I’ve been with Verizon over 20 years and have never had issues like this. I can have 2 bars with 5G and still can’t receive/make calls (when I’m not stuck is SOS mode). 5G has always run slow for me, but I didn’t have this issue when it was run in LTE.
I’ve been on with Verizon multiple times and something really needs to be done.

We want to take a look at our coverage concerns. How far do you have to travel from this area for service to improve? Are texts and data affected? ~Peter

Everyone in my family (5 phones) is having the same problem. Happens multiple times per week. Most notably in our house, where we've never had problems before, but also around town.  Verizon used to have the best coverage in New England, but it's been awful for the last few months. If I can't make a call from my house, what's the point of having Verizon service?

We need to travel outside of town (Marblehead) to alleviate the issue although I can't say for 100% certainty as I'm not looking at my phone while driving...Anything in town is similar. We used to be fine. Coverage ranges from "No Coverage" and "SOS Only" to a maximum of two bars. Text and data are also effected. This has been going on for at least 4-6 weeks.

Hello. It happens when I’m in my office, and driving around town. The only consistent place it works is at home. I work at a university and several ci workers and many many students (and their parents) are frustrated with the coverage. We understood lines were being upgraded and supposed to be completed on June 1 (from Verizon store worker). We didn’t have any of these problems when it was LTE. I’ve tried choosing the lte option but it doesn’t work any better now. I’ve replaced my phone via Verizon and gotten a new and then a virtual sim/esim card. Didn’t help. I could be in a field and stuck in SOS mode. Our zip is 94928.

I have the same issue in Lancaster county and York county Pennsylvania every time I go into a building I lose service every building has the same result regardless of full bars or not. Some weird technology change in the actual towers or carrier update is causing all these issues. I am seeing the analytics in my phone and the biggest bug that keeps appearing is the 225 bug. If I force restart my phone (not airplane mode on off) then I get the service back. I even went as far as running an automatic ping in the background so that I won’t lose service.

when will Verizon stop allowing young teenagers to mess with critical infrastructure firmware? The old timers thought it through and gave us what worked.

Same problem in Atlanta! For the last 3 weeks or so, I have had little to no coverage at home in Atlanta. I am sitting in my home office now, where I used to have full bars, and my phone is in SOS mode. I have been walking around the house all morning and can't get even one bar. Driving around town, I get two bars at best. Verizon: We are in the middle of the city, zip codes 30307 and 30306. If the issue isn't resolved soon, we'll have no choice but to change networks.

Same issue in Wisconsin, just outside of Milwaukee. Have spent endless hours on chat (and phone when I can) with Verizon. Am fed up. Verizon used to be good but is awful now. I shouldn't have to spend 10-20 hours on a problem that is obviously a Verizon issue since other people in my apartment building have the same problem. And yet every time I talk to someone they want to do phone troubleshooting. No one reads any notes and seems to have any incentive to do anything. Talked to one person who admitted there was an issue with no signal in building and yet the case she started was closed without any further explanation. I've had it with Verizon.

It’s even worse now the sos mode doesn’t even show anymore, it just shows a 5G signal and 2 bars when you lose service and connectivity making you more frustrated than ever and unless you restart your phone you will not get your service back.

it’s like plugging in the Wi-Fi router and not plugging in the cable into the router connecting to Wi-Fi and expecting internet to work because it shows full strength bars. There is no connectivity anymore.

the biggest issue is that Verizon is allowing all the out of date extenders and cell phone boosters to take priority over actual cellular service. We are connecting to something akin to a Wi-Fi router that has no connectivity and we cannot tell our phones not to connect to them.

in my discoveries I found that DNS somehow gets disconnected and there is no way for me to force it to query again.

the only thing that is left for me to try since Verizon doesn’t care anymore is to go back to jail breaking and patching comm center and forcing static values for things.
