Vvoicemail problem

I have an iPhone6s+. Whenever someone tries to call me, they hear a message saying "I'm sorry, the person you are trying to reach has a voice mail box that has not been setup yet. Please, try your call again later. Goodbye". I've used the phone to record a greeting, and I've hit *86 to verify that the greeting is set. The phone and *86 both say I have 3 messages. What's going on?

Apple uses it's own voicemail system separately from Verizon I beleive. Have you tried the visual voicemail app on the iPhone?

Perhaps my first message wasn't clear, I apologize.

The visual voice mail app is setup properly. It will replay my existing greeting and will let me record a new greeting without problem.

Dialing my phone number from my phone or using *86 confirms for me that the greeting is set appropriately

However, when someone calls me they still get the message saying my voicemail box has not been setup.

On my phone I've reset my network settings, I've successfully changed my voicemail password and recorded a couple of different greetings. I addition, I've verified I do not have any carrier updates waiting to be installed

Try dialing *73, Send, and wait for confirmation tones, then hang up. This will cancel any call forwarding that may be set up. It may or may not fix this, but it won't hurt anything to try.
