Caller numbers have added characters - ";rn=1817602"

Just in the past week or so, calls I receive often have extra characters showing up as the calling number. The real caller number will be there, followed by the characters in the subject line. So the caller number will show as "[removed];rn=1817602". This is messing with both my caller ID and spam blocker software; both tend to take the last digits as the caller's number, when in actuality the first part is the real number calling.
Anyone else experiencing this? Any known cause, fix, or workaround?

I have received similar calls from telemarketers and the caller id shows [removed];rn=+1978808
My app "Should I Answer" is not blocking these calls
How can I block these calls?

You can either block them from your device, please clarify what kind of device you have.. or if these are the same numbers we can block them for you as well on our system. We will be rolling out a new feature at the end of March called "Call Filter". This will put an end to those pesky robo calls and spam callers as well. Here is a link to stay updated on its release:https://www.verizon.com/about/news/verizon-robocallers-your-days-are-numbered-starting-march-verizon....

I have a Samsung Galaxy S5.
Blocking the numbers is not an option -- remember, the extra digits appear on every call, including actual people I know and want to talk to (my wife, parents, etc.). Every caller, whether wanted or spam, has these same added digits. My caller ID and spam blocker both take these extra digits as the number of the caller, so if I were to block them, no calls at all would get through.

I certainly understand that blocking those numbers is not an option, brw0mbat. I too would be concerned if I started having extra numbers added to the end of each one that contacts me. Let’s take a step back and figure out what is causing those extra characters to be added. You mentioned that this started the past week or so; What changes happened with your device prior to this issue starting? What happens when you receive a phone call while in Safe Mode? Here’s how to reboot in Safe Mode: https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-111483/
Safe Mode will disable any 3rd party applications temporarily to help determine if an application is causing this issue.

Jvt626, we never want you to have issues with your device. When did this start? Is this when any number calls you? Please restart your device and see if the issue persists.

I am having the same problem as you. When I call my cell phone from my landline it shows that I'm getting a call but it will not ring. I see the extra digits added to my landline phone number. I have a Samsung S6. I need to be able to know when my home is calling my cell phone. Is there a fix for this?

I'm having the same issue, but the appended info is ";rn=+1404290".
Blocking is useless because the actual phone number before this string changes constantly.
Verizon could fix all of this is they really wanted to. They could give us a way to block all calls originating from certain countries. For instance, I don't want any calls from any country other than the U.S.. That would be easy for them.
They could let us whitelist everyone in our contact lists - by sending the contact list to Verizon's servers for filtering before they reach our phones. They could even force every number not in our white list directly to voice mail.
If needed, Verizon could put out their own phone app for Android (not sure if it is ppossible for iOS) that would automatically send all calls not in our contact list to voicemail without ever ringing. How hard would that be?
It isn't that they can't do it, they just don't want to do it.
The real answer is to get a phone with just a data plan and then use an app like Mesenger to call your firends and family. If Messenger can put you in control of your phone, Verizon has absolutely no excuse for not doing it as well.

kittenofD00m, I would be feeling much the same way if I was getting calls from that strange string of numbers. I want to investigate this with you, to see what's happening. Where is the string of numbers appearing in relation to the phone number that's calling you? Does the call with this code of numbers occur during a specific time of day? Have you tried adding the 'rn=1404290' as the string of numbers to block on your device?

This is unhelpful information. It doesn't answer the question of where these calls are coming from? Does this point to an issue where Robo computers are Dialing for scams? I'm getting these bogus numbers on top of numbers that dial me repeatedly and only change a digit so it's impossible to block them. Either way your call filter app does not solve any problems. First of all I called customer service directly because of an excessive amount of scam calls regarding SSA numbers and I was told that the app had been launched and to go into the Play Store... only there was nothing besides a basic Verizon app...? Along with outside parties offering call filter applications but NOT Verizon (errrrr). When I called back the second person I spoke to said it was because we needed some sort of change to be made to the information on our account so we could access this app. She said the last gal forgot! Nope!....that was a fail too! Whatever y'all added geeez. So talking to two representatives and spending an hour trying to obtain a better way to block this nonsense proved to be an exercise in futility! No help

My phone is Galaxy S6, it's not one of the phones that can use your Verizon Call Blocker unless you have special version for the Galaxy S6.

jackmor, dealing with unwanted calls is never fun. Assistance has arrived. Whether your number is ported from a landline or directly from the cellular provider, you should not have to deal with these types of calls. We do offer a feature called Call Filter which is compatible with your Samsung Galaxy S6. Please take a look at the link provided and let us know if this is a feature you'd be interested in trying. There are steps listed on how to download and use for your device. https://www.verizonwireless.com/solutions-and-services/call-filter/

This is not limited to land lines. My wife's cell (she is on Sprint) has these additional characters as well. The result is that my phone (an S5) recognizes it as her and pops up the appropriate contact info, but it uses the default ring tone rather than the one I chose for her, and more concerningly it does not recognize her as an exception to my Do Not Disturb status. I have subsequently missed several emergency calls from her. I have tried it in Safe Mode, and I have tried disabling the Caller ID app and rebooting the phone. Neither works.
This is exceptionally frustrating, and if it is not corrected is enough to prompt me to switch carriers.
