My cell phone broke over the weekend and its taking some time for me to get a new one. Is there any way to see the content of my text messages using the verizon account of my computer?

Yes. You can log in to your account online select 'Text online' in the 'Sign Out' dropdown menu, using the login profile of the phone number you want to use. There also is access via desktop apps depending on the OS your desktop is running.
