Can't hear ring sound on some outgoing phone calls

Sometimes when I'm making an outgoing phone call the call is being initiated but I can't hear a ring notification on my phone so I don't really know if the call is being actually being made or not. I just hold the phone in silence and then the person answers. This doesn't happen on every call but when it does its very annoying. Is this a common problem and is anything being done to resolve this?

The call was fine and perfectly clear. My phone has a 309 number and I was calling a 309 number but from within the 850 area code. When I pressed to dial the number no sound to indicate that the call was being initiated. I looked at my phone and the screen showed that the call was being initiated. I just waited and my party finally answered . I don't know why it's doing this. Nothing that you can put your finger on as sometimes to the same caller you will hear the sound that it's dialing and sometimes it does not.

I know this thread is a couple years old now, but it is the first thing that I have come across with my exact problem. I actually have 2 numbers that my phone does this on. I can hear the ring on every other call I make. New numbers, old numbers, local, long distance doesnt matter. There is only 2 numbers that this happens with and it kinda freaks me out honestly lol. A friend that lives in town and my brother who lives local also. I have to just sit and wait and then they answer. It shouldn't really matter but there is just something about not having a ring that messes with me. It started about 3 months ago. I have had the number for 3 years maybe or close to it.
