Casio Commando....Yes sir, I'd like to hang up on myself right now

I am having a big problem with my Casio Commando screen turning on during a phone call. I have become a skilled technician at hanging up on myself. The problem seems to happen most when I am moving around, or walking as the ambient light changes where ever I move. The problem is most prevalent when walking outside and moving between shaded areas and bright sun areas.

It is absolutely ridiculous how many times I have hung up on myself, accidentaly turned on speaker or mute, hit numbers during the call, etc. I am not the only person having this problem. On my account, there are 4 of these Commando's and ALL of us are experiencing this.

I have tried hitting the power button on the side of the phone when I walk into a bright sunlit area, but it still hangs up the call.....all the time. I have tried everything I possibly know, short of not moving at all during a call.

What is the fix for this? Who else is having this problem?

Have you updated to the the latest OS system (Gingerbread 2.3 update) that was released a week or so ago? One of the bug fixes was a proximity sensor error. It sounds like your issues could possibly be related to the proximity/light sensor.

Please post back with additional information.

I don't know what OS the phone has, but I can say this......last week or the week before all 4 of these phones on my account went thru a major update. The phone turned itself on and off multiple times during this update. The phone was un-useable for about 1/2 hour with all the updates. After the update, the icons at the top of the home page are visually different. They are VERY small....in fact, TOO SMALL to even view them now. I don't like the new software update if this is it.

In regards to my first problem of the phone constantly hanging up on me.....I would even say that the problem has become worse since the updated software deal arrived and installed. I don't have dates, times, occurences logged, but my feeling is that things have become worse in that regard.

I don't know what Gingerbread is.....unless you are talking about the type that comes from a kitchen ;-P

Gingerbread is the code name for the Android 2.3.x operating system.

To view the current version of the Android operating system, go to settings > about phone.

Alright Verizon and Casio.......WHAT IS THE FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM??? It's getting REALLY old hanging up, hitting mute, hitting speaker, hitting digits on the dial pad because this phone is malfunctioning.

Also....how can I get the larger Icons back at the top of the screen? The new Icons after the software update are TOO SMALL!!!

Hi mattt181,

I understand your discontent; I would be frustrated if my calls were terminated randomly. As noted by Ann154 (Thanks), the latest software version (which you have already) specifically addressed a Proximity Sensor issue and you should not experience issues with this sensor. Please keep in mind that whenever a software update is developed some changes will take effect also on the phone's screen appearance and the icons size change noted in your post is normal.

Do you have a clear screen protector on your phone? I have seen cases where removing such protectors resolve issues like the ones outlined in your post.

Since using the Power Key to lock the touch screen does not seem to resolve the issue you may qualify for a Certified Like New Replacement of the same model if under the one year manufacturer's warranty, please visit this LINK for replacement process details.

This problem still persists and has a new twist. The phone went thru another update about 1 month ago. After this update, there are now words on the screen when the proximity sensor turns off the normal buttons...hang up, speaker, mute, etc. These words that pop up now stay on the screen and refuse to go away even after the call disconnects. It is usually impossible to hang up or end the call when these words are on the screen.

Casio/Verizon......you probably tried to make it better with this last update.....but you missed the mark!!! It's worse. How about a functioning fix?!?!?!?!?

I believe that I saw that an update was planned for the Commando in the last week or so. Hopefully they will push it out soon and that addresses the bugs.

I'm still having the problem with the phone screen sensitivity being too high.....especially in bright light(sunny) areas.

I too still have trouble with the scree while on the phone. My face must be shaped a little different than yours since though I do have it hang up on people, MOST of the time it mutes me and they can't hear me and I can't tell until they start asking if I am there over and over and when I realize it I have to wait for the screen to come back up again a lot of the time and by the time I get it unmuted they hang up on me. lol Both scenarios are bad. Wish they would fix. On the bright side the last update did finally fix my issue with connecting to the drive on the phone via USB. lol

I have the same problem. I hate this phone. The thing that makes it so bad is this is my work phone and when I'm trying to talk to customers the stupid thing either hangs up on them or mutes me. It also randomly calls people on a whim. I had it sitting on the seat next to me in my pickup and it called someone. I noticed the light go on from the corner of my eye, looked at it, saw it was calling someone, so I tried to hang up before it rang them. You know what, the stupid thing wouldn't allow me to stop the call!!! The latest problem is I'll be talking to someone, it'll hang up on them and instantly call someone else. Thank God my personel phone is an iPhone.

As E_Hillman said.....mine does both and alternates between hanging up and hitting mute as well. Rockhead....I feel your pain with everything else you mentioned about the craziness your phone does.....mine is the same on occasion. Sometimes the screen locks me out during a call, flips to my contact list, flips to voicemail log in page, & goes to random other screens during a call. This is beyond really ANNOYING....but apparent Verizon & Casio aren't too worried about it since we all have bought already. What is the warranty.....1 year? How about an en masse warranty refund?

Still having problems with this phone!! It is garbage! I think I get angry at this phone at least 3 times a day, no wonder they made the stupid thing to be tough. Hanging up on calls, muting calls, I really hope people are reading the reviews on this phone. If anyone is thinking about buying this phone DON'T!!!

I feel your pain. This phone is the worst phone I have EVER owned! Mine does the exact same thing and as far as that problem is concerned it showed up AFTER the update. I'm on my THIRD commando and every single one of them have been garbage. Verizon should really let us trade in for a new phone (another make of course!).

My Casio Commando(s)-

Randomly cut off, sometimes in mid-call (this can happen multiple times a day)

Keeps turning the screen on and off while talking

Freezes up even though I have deleted almost every single app on it! (besides the bloatware)

Is overall extremely slow.

And not a huge problem but a lot of times its like trying to play Whac-A-Mole to hit the end button if you leave the dialer screen during a call. It pops up for a second then disappears. Just have to wait for the other person to hang up

My wife paid a lot less for her HTC trophy but its a heck of a lot more reliable than this piece of junk.

No more Casios for me, they may be sturdy agains the elements but if the "insides" are already screwed up who cares??

Well I have had this phone for about three weeks now and it's USELESS. Whenever I'm more then 2 or 3 minutes into a call it just hangs up. WTH. Went back to the store and the hot looking women said well you're hitting it with you chin, ya think. They don't understand sometimes when you get disconnected during an important call it's not as easy as just re dialing. Sometimes the calls come from an office or business and a generic number just shows up and you can't just re-dial.

This happens nearly every call over 2-3 minutes so I'm assuming it has to do with heat or sensor location.

Thus far I haven't seen any fixes for this phone. Today I had a new issue. I lost some voice mail which was deleted while I was trying to listen to it. I really hate this phone. I have gotten so angry with it that I've thought about crushing the stupid thing. I'm sure it'd be worth as much crushed as it is now. What I find funny is Verizon has over 1100 reviews on this phone and the average rating for it is 4 out of 5 stars! REALLY? Are people just putting stars up because they are excited to get a new phone or are they smart enough to use the stupid thing before they review it? Hey I want everything I buy to be the best too but before I review something I'm going to use to and find out if I wasted my money. This phone is a huge waste. Who cars that it can be dropped in water, or that it won't break when it's dropped, it doesn't work! UGH........... I really hate this phone!!!!

I hear ya !!!!!! The only thing they told me was to use an ear piece(BlueTooth), I used it with my kids blue tooth and it works because you don't but the phone near your ear. Well then send me a free bluetooth. The last person was supposed to find out about getting a discount for me but that was weeks ago and still nothing. They know of the problem but do nothing about it that's what I don't get.

The phone is pretty useless with out an earpiece!!!!!!!!!!

Still.....3 years later.....and NO fix! Shame on Verizon and Casio for ignoring their customers. Anyone else out there ever figure out a fix or work around for this issue?
