I keep getting "Cloud contacts backup failed". Why? I have tried wi-fi and data and still get the same message.

You are much better off this way. Change your contacts to Google and let Google back them up. You will have accurate backups and immediate reloading and updates. Backup Assistant is not a very good application and some refer to it as Malware as it is so intrusive.

There are many ways to switch. The easiest is to download Contact Optimizer and it will change them all over for you in seconds.

Hi CindyL313 - Let's get your contacts floating in the Cloud! May I ask what model is your device? Are other item backing up in the Cloud like pictures and documents?
Thank you,

This is very odd Marla1104! Try clearing Cache/Date and synch again. Settings>Applications>Application Manager>All>Verizon Cloud>Clear Cache/Data.

@CindyLu313,
Thanks for the additional info! Is anything else backing up on the Verizon Cloud? Try clearing Cache and data for the app.
Go to Settings>Applications>Application Manager> Verizon Cloud.
Keep us posted.

Oh my! We can't thank you enough for trying those steps, CindyLu313. We are so sorry that you have encountered the message, but we want to get it all taken care of.
The next step would be to have a resolution ticket filed with our technical support team. Are you saying the contacts are not even viewable from the Cloud?

Happens on my Galaxy 5s as well. It was also the case with my previous device (a Droid Bionic). I'll try filing a ticket.

Update: After chatting online with support, they decided to ship me a replacement device. We'll see if that helps.

As previously mentioned, use Google Contacts. If you want to keep dealing with Verizon backup, that's your choice, but Google Contacts is hassle free.

The same thing happened to me after a forced update on my Samsung s5. When I called Verizon they told me to back up to Google cloud! What kind of advice is that?

I just received a new LG G2 phone and restored my old "dumb phone" contacts from the Backup Assistant, and then set up the Verizon cloud backup (which seems to be the default). It seemed to work for a few days, then I started to get, regularly, "Cloud contacts backup failed due to network lost!". My network is fine and it's working everywhere else in the house (strong WiFi signal, decent 4G reception). I tried rebooting the phone as well as clearing the data for the Cloud app and the error still occurs. After reading this thread, I think I'm moving my phone contacts over to Google. No sense in contacting Verizon technical support to be told my phone needs to be replaced when this is clearly a problem with the cloud software.

Do yourself a huge favor. Change your contacts to Google Contacts, clear our Backup Assistant and cloud. Disable cloud, disable Backup assistant and use the seamlessly easy Google to back up your contacts and never have issues like this again.

Can you walk me through how to change everything to Google?
