Galaxy Note Edge update to Marshmallow fails

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, not rooted. It's currently on Lollipop 5.0.1. I've never been pushed any updates between that and Marshamallow. I am trying to update it to Marshmallow now, but it fails within the first minute. The error code is 404. Normally, a 404 error is for a webpage unavailable. Is that the same thing here? If so, when might it be resolved so I can update? If not, what can I do to fix the issue? I am using a wireless connection and my battery is fully charged, btw.

Having same problem. I've tried OTA and while connected to my computer via software upgrade assistant. The phone says update available, it will download it and try to install, but install fails due to "error 404". The upgrade assistant on my computer tells me the phone is up to date and does not need an upgrade.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. Unfortunately, Verizon doesn't seem to care, since there hasn't even been a peep out of them about it. I'm not all that surprised at that, however. Sad, when you just expect that issues will be ignored.

chatted online with Samsung tech...after trying a couple of things and still no update, they suggested going to a local Best Buy and speaking to someone at their Samsung Experience Shop. They have "smart tools" which should be able to update the phone. Worth a try.

I wonder if they could do it at a Verizon store. I have one on my way home from work. Just hate going in there since it's always a zoo.

read something about it being due to Amazon apps being turned off.

I turned on all apps I had turned off under Applications and the update still failed. I'm now doing a factory data reset to see if that rectifies the situation. Will post back with results.

Performed factory data reset. Update is now installing. It's a [removal required by the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service] that we shouldn't have to deal with, but seems to be the only solution.

Not sure what that would have to do with it. Can't really turn them off anyway - only uninstall them. I tried googling but all I found was refercences to amazon apps not updating after marshmallow upgrade.

I sure hope that doing a factory reset is not going to be the answer! Yes, my stuff is backed up, but that's beside the point. It's a hassle to then have to go and get everything re-downloaded, etc.

And boy, it would be nice if there were something more from Verizon other than "sorry you're having a problem". How about actually looking into it? Maybe trying to figure out WHY there's a problem instead of us having to jump through all of these hoops, trying this that and the other? What does my error code 404 mean? Why is it broken?

Same issues here. I did a factory reset and no help. I chatted with Verizon Wireless and Samsung and can't get the software upgrade function to work. I did go to Best Buy thinking they could take care of the problem (this is what someone at VZ call center suggested). I spent an hour waiting for them to download the software and then update my phone only to find out it was the March 2016 security update! Samsung does not have the Marshmallow update from Verizon yet. Guy tells me there may be some "instabilities" and that is why Samsung may not have it........

I, too, went to the Samsung site, and noticed that Verizon's was the one missing. Not sure why VZW is consistently last but it seems to be standard.

Besides the amazon music app (theory is because it is removed in 6.0 it must be active) also try settings - storage - clear cache.

I can confirm the following: it failed several times for me as well with error code 404. So today after googling, I went into settings storage and deleted the cache. Then I went to applications and force stopped all amazon (music, shopping, and kindle) apps. Then re-ran setup, which then worked. I did all amazon apps to be safe, though folks are saying it might just be the music one. But this absolutely worked for me just now.

I can confirm this helped me after about a dozen attempts to update otherwise.

I downloaded the update and at about 99% complete download I cleared the Storage cache and Force Stopped all Amazon apps.

Installed FINALLY.

I did notice amazon music showing up every now and then in the running processes which means that might be the cause.

This is just [removal required by the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service] and Verizon does not care. A very very unethical and pathetic product team they have.

All it needs is may be a few of these handsets to test and then they can really ascertain if its ready for release. Instead, they just want all of you to do the testing for them while they get paid for just clicking the "release" button from the [removed] they get from Samsung with the bloatwares they need us to tolerate as part of their "free" services.

The wonderful thing about the whole industry is, the only solution to everything is something as easy as "factory reset". [Removed] do not know not everyone is a common user and how much of a hassle it is for someone who has setup a lot of things on their phone. If only I can just get their network services without all the phones being labeled [removed] "VERIZON PHONES"

I got the phone to update by going to settings, storage and clearing the cache (7.7 GB went down to 12 KB).

Then I force quit ALL apps (took 20 minutes).

Then I initiated the update; it downloaded, installed and updated all apps.

Go to Settings > Date Time and uncheck automatic time and automatic time zone. The update will then work. The issue has something to do with time stamp. The system restore process isn't processing the correct date and time when performing the update so some validation logic is failing there. Soon as I disabled automatic time and time zone the update went through without an issue. Cache had nothing to do with it. Hope this helps.

Eolastear... interesting and worth noting. But for many of us, clearing the cache and force stopping the Amazon apps actually was the resolution and the automatic time had nothing to do with it.

The error is being caused by something in resolving the time and date when using the network time and date. I tried everything in this thread multiple times over and over. All of my Amazon apps were running and my cache had Ober 3 GB in it when I unchecked the auto time and zone. Update ran through without 1 hiccup. I'm willing to bet that the update running after clearing cache and stuff may have had to do with when it was done. Either way, no harm in trying all 3.

Samsung's SmartSwitch software using pc worked fine for me. You will need to put phone as safe mode before perform upgrade using SmartSwitch.

I went deleted my storage cache under settings, then went into app mgr and force quit all Amazon apps. Redownloaded and installed software and it works perfectly!!
