I have had my HTC One M8 for a couple months now. When I first got it I was able to watch videos on the Facebook app with no problems, now I click on video to watch it and I get "Sorry, but an unknown error occurred while trying to play this video." Please help!

Raven072311,

Help has arrived. I understand how important it is to view your videos. We encourage you to remove the Facebook application from your device. Once you have removed the application we encourage you to readd the app.

I've done that at least 10 times and I'm still having the same problem.

Hi Raven072311!

We'll get this figured out, your efforts are greatly appreciated! When did the issue begin? Are you connected to wi-fi or the VZW network when you attempt to watch the video? Have you downloaded any new applications?

Thanks,

I've tried it connected to WiFi and I've also tried it with WiFi off and just use the Verizon network. I haven't downloaded any new apps, since having this phone.

Raven072311 we'll put an end to this issue! Try playing the videos through the browser instead of the app. Let us know the details!

We'll cross all bases to get this taken care of for you Raven072311! The final step is to complete a Hard Reset on the device by http://vz.to/1r6Bvy7 . This process will wipe the device so it's best to backup your info first.

New development as of today, July 9, 2014. I have a alert message saying " HTC Sense needs Facebook permissions, authorize HTC apps to access Facebook" I'm about ready to just throw my phone.

I'm no issues with any other apps. I have tried to talk to Facebook but no one else seems to be having any issues.

You need to send bug reports to Facebook. That's the only way to fix it. Within the settings there's a place where you can send feedback and bug reports.

I've sent reports to Facebook that's it's not playing videos, is that what you mean?

Then you have to wait for Facebook to fix it. Facebook even though it is preinstalled is facebooks responsibility to ensure it is working properly. You are not the only user having trouble with the exact feature since it was introduced. It isn't a M8 specific issue.

My Z1S has the same problem as well as my Transformer tablet. My M7 and M8 handles it just fine just for insight it isn't a device or carrier specific problem. It's a random bug that affects random devices.

Yes it's a hassle sometimes.  Sometimes it'll force open the browser because the app can't display the videos and say the page doesn't exist.  Hop on the desktop computer browser and it's clear a day working.  I use the beta versions and it seems even then Facebook has figured it out.

It happens on a variety of devices.  It has little to do with the M8.  It randomly affects users.  It's more than likely code isn't well optimized.
