My phone has the Security & Privacy app (downloaded by Verizon not me) but now I get notified constantly that is using battery. What can I do as I still want some type of security on the phone.
Same here on Note 9. Annoying. I even have notifications blocked for this app in the app setting.
Please fix #VZW

depends what you have it do. if it's checking every app update + other checks(which you select), it'll kill the battery.
fwiw:
i have it do one check/week.
That is never the experience we want you to have with your Security and Privacy App. We are here to help. What model device do you have? Did anything change on the device when this issue started for your phone?

I have the LG v30. I was finally able to have this notification go away by
going into app settings and selecting the uninstall update option.

Do I really want to uninstall an update to get rid of the battery running from Security?
cad70-
I definitely understand the importance of having your phone secured at all times as well as preserving your battery life. Your battery will be consumed every time an app is running in the background. Disabling the app will stop battery usage. If you would like to stop notifications as well as preventing battery usage from this app, please go into the phone Settings>Apps>select Security and Privacy>select force stop and Uninstall. Please let me know if that works.

i have it do a basic check once a week.
I'm here to help with your battery drain concern, let's look into this. Which device do you have? When did the problem begin? Did you uninstall the update? Any changes? I look forward to hearing from you soon.

If I can chime in, I am getting the same message suddenly, starting yesterday or today.I used "force stop" this morning but the message has returned. I have not yet resorted to uninstalling the update.
I have a Samsung SM-J327V
This app is intrusive and very aggressive on both memory and battery usage. You need to redesign this app and optimize to our devices or remove it entirely. I did not have a choice in activating and running this app. It even ignored my settings when I set it to disable all scanning. So it appears the app is also broken.
Device: LG V30
I did, on the latest version, it literally ignored that setting and scanned every single app I downloaded and in the background at all times. It even showed a notification bar stating it is "on" and never went away.
I have a Samsung S7. I finally just blocked it from telling me that it was using battery. But now I have an issue with it telling me that my friend's internet connection (that you need a password to connect to) is unsecured.
I know how important it is to have your phone working as it should be, JTBetz.
Can you tell me when you updated the phone? Is your battery draining faster as well?
Thank you,

I agree that an app that drains a phone is frustrating, JoeMikeKnight. Let’s investigate. What are the top 3 apps under Settings > Battery > Device Usage? Has the Security & Privacy app’s update been uninstalled and reinstalled?

I'm sorry to learn that your phone is notifying you that your friend's internet connection is unsecured,
NICMOR20. I can help. When did this issue start? Do you get this notification with every WiFi network or only with specific networks?

I'm having the same issue on my s9 since the last system update. Incredibly frustrating!! I have to charge my phone mid day now. This is not ok. Verizon needs to fix this ASAP!
I have been getting this notification also for over a month. I have a Samsung Galaxy S7. About the same time, the battery started draining faster. When I click on the notification to see the usage, I generally get a message saying 0% used since last full charge. Sometimes it shows up in the App Power Monitor, but generally not exceeding 0.1% per hour.
Thanks in advance for your help

TLent, we never want any app to drain more power than it should from your phone. We are here for you.
The only way to completely disable an app from using power from the phone is to uninstall the app or disable the app itself https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-203677/
Regarding the power drain of your phone itself, have you taken a look at the Battery Usage shown in Settings, Device Maintenance, Battery, then tap Battery Usage below where is shows Estimated battery life. The phone will list all the apps on your phone and how much power they are using.
Once you know which ones are using the most power you can adjust your usage to get out of your phone's battery life.

The link in your reply does not work.
I have a Note9, and at least once a day I get the message saying that Security and Privacy is draining my battery. Is it wise to disable the app?
Curiously, all of the apps listed as being the top drains are listed as "0% per hour" and the "Verizon Security & Privacy" app that keeps triggering the alert is not listed, even in the sleeping apps. Furthermore when I follow the link from the alert into App info and click on the Security & Privacy link it also shows the Battery usage as "0% used since last fully charged"
Why am I constantly getting thse alerts?
That is a very valid question LRushforth. I would be weary with uninstalling the application as well. My suggestion would be to not uninstall the Security & Privacy application. We always want our devices to be protected. I would suggest checking to see if there are any additional unused applications that I could remove off of the device to conserve battery power instead. Please click the following link https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-206364/ and review the Device Health Check for additional information on the applications that can possibly be removed.
How does this sound?
Verizon has set up the Security & Privacy app so it cannot be uninstalled. When I try to uninstall it, the only option I get is to uninstall the updates. That doesn't seem like a wise course of action.
Meanwhile, I conyinue to get the Androis System notifications that the Security & Privacy app is using battery every day.
TLent,
Having that drain battery would certainly get old. I understand the desire to not have this continue. It sounds though like it may just be using more than the phone would expect at times. You can uninstall the updates and even disable the app if you like but then it won't be able to keep your device safe. If you prefer to use a different security app or don't want to use this app you can certainly do this but we do believe this app does the best job of keeping your phone running well.
Are you using battery optimization on this device? You can check this following https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-204545/ If you go into your settings under device maintenance>battery>unmonitored apps and add this app to the list there does this stop the messages?
AndrewT_VZW
I disabled it on my Note 9. No more message. Thank you very much.
Same priblem since
Same problem for 2 days - android permanent notification that it's using battery (which it was) and multiple notifcations from the Privacy & Security app that "Safety 24/7 threat Protection is on".
I have disabled it.

Hello AlysaAnn,
Thank you very much for adding the details about your experience with the Security and Privacy application. My phone is my lifeline, so I understand how important battery life is. To confirm, did you disable the application itself, or did you disable the push notifications within the application? What difference, if any, did you see in the battery life? Please clarify these details, thank you very much.

wgboyle,
The Security and Privacy app is intended to keep your device secure and safe from unexpected security threats so we're sorry to learn that it's impacting your battery life. The frequency of scans and updates can decrease the battery life on your phone. Based on our testing, the impact of the app on a full charge should be less than 15 minutes. To minimize the battery drainage, try changing the frequency schedule using the following steps:
1. Go to Security Settings.2. Under Scan Options choose Scan frequency > Schedule Type and change the interval to Customer Schedule then choose Weekly.**Note: This won't change the real-time scans of messages and apps as they arrive on your device.
If changing the frequency schedule does not work, please tell us what model phone you have and what software version is currently installed.

Same here. Just recently, maybe Christmas my phone started getting really slow and running out of battery 3x faster at least. I used to charge the Galaxy S7 every couple days. Now twice a day.
And I just started seeing the security thing is draining battery.
I'm so surprised to see what looks like Verizon above saying to force stop and uninstall it
Probably a big hacker prep, get all the security software ready to miss the bigger attack.
