LG Ally 2.1 Update starts Fri 9/17/10

Hello everyone,

I have just been notified that the Ally will be getting an upgrade to a new software version ZVB.

Please do not confuse this with FROYO 2.2 Upgrade! This is a software update for features in the device NOT a OS update.

The update will be done via GOTA (Google Over the Air), this means that the update will happen automatically, the same way the V08 update happened in the past.

SW update start date: 9/17

Schedule: Day 1 - 10K, Day 2 - soak, Day 3 - hold due to weekend, Day 4 - 100K, Day 5 - 400-500K (remaining)

So by the schedule above, all Ally’s should receive updates by next Friday.

may sound dumb, but how will I know its gotten the upgrade. Just got the phone last week will it need it?

you will get a popup telling you it downloaded the update and ask if you want to update now or later.

Does anyone know when the update is supposed to be complete by? I know this probably sounds dumb but I'm wondering if we are all getting it or just a select few, as I haven't gotten anything yet. And if we are all getting it will it be quick or will I end up waiting a month for it?

Has anyone got it yet? I haven't. My faith in Big Red and my Ally are fading daily........

Does anyone know if this update will solve the issue of the phone occasionally freezing when trying to power down?

It should be completed by FRIDAY the 24th of Sept... I haven't seen it yet, here in the Midwest, I'm getting impatient. :smileyhappy:

Got my update today (09/21/10). Since the update I have lost the ability to use 4 of my most used apps. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. After doing this they work until I turn off then on the phone. Then all 4 apps will not work. 2 of the apps were paid for and I contacted the developers. They were no help. I lost the data in one of the apps. I'm not too happy with this update. Everything was working fine prior. Now what, the money paid for those apps are gone along with the hours of info and data I put into it?

Got the update wed @ 2:14 am pst. It took 7 minutes.

Exchange Sync added.. looks nice

City Id added. 15 day free trial

New phone lock setting. It is very nice. Unlock code is 0000 and a alpha numeric code of your choice is then required.

LG Home theme uses less memory than Android Home.

My over all memory remained the same.

And my only causality is tv.com no longer works.

It's not 9/23 and I still haven't gotten the update. I'm in SC and I'm not roaming. What gives?

How do I deny the update? I only see the options "Install Now" "Install Later" and "More info".

Unfortunately it doesn't look like the few of us who got Ver 09 of the Ally Software will not get the VZB update pushed to our phones... I'm looking into a manual way to get them updated... I'll let you know what I find our.

I'm not aware of a way to "Deny" an Update. It will just continue to prompt you to accept it. I'll look into it.

I really hate adding more useless apps that cannot be removed. What a waste! It's a shame the customer service is not as good as the coverage.

I got the update Thursday and, as with everyone else, got Skype and CityID. How do I keep them from starting up everytime I turn on the phone? They are devouring memory that I want to use for something else. I don't want them. It's my phone, dammit -- get them the heck off. This is enough to push me to rooting my phone, something I wouldn't normally do.

Verizon you are being rude.

The update said the battery life would be better. It would be better IF your lame forced apps weren't constantly running! Instead it is much worse.

How many negative comments must Verizon see before it listens?? Have you looked at the Skype app in the Android Market? Thousands of unhappy users that want it uninstalled yet Verizon still forces it on us.

City ID is the dumbest app ever. Like I care what city you are calling from! It just slows down the actual phone.

Yeah, not very happy with the update either. My battery life has gotten much worse over the last 3 days. But it won't matter much longer - purchased an Incredible last Friday, and I'm just waiting for it to arrive. Then it is bye bye Ally. Enough is enough.

I'm an app developer and this update has effected many of my users (with the LG Ally). Uninstalling/reinstalling fixes the problem temporarily but then after a reboot the issue is back.

I provided the app to user's outside the market and the problem was fixed. The only difference is the version from the Market has "copy-protection" enabled. So my guess is Verizon messed up apps with copy-protection somehow.

Just a tip if you are experiencing issues with apps, ask the app developers if the issue is with copy-protection and if they will turn copy-protection off in the Market or provide the app to you some other way.

Who is responsible for this irresponsible update? Did VZW do it or LG? I want to make sure I am letting the right entity know what my thoughts are on the update.

Agreed! Verizon needs to step up to the plate and be the proverbial man here. WHY did you screw with our phone?? I loved my Ally before and now I don't. I was finally satisfied with everything related to my phone service, and then you went out and screwed with it all making me go back to constantly being unhappy with my phone and service.

I am livid and of course noone will do anything to help us. I never had a problem with an LG phone before. I don't care if they take away our 2 upgrades that we a due to get soon but I want a new phone this is unreal. I haven't used the phone except to send 2 texts and already its down to the yellow battery. What the heck is wrong with this picture Verizon....your treating good customers like dog doody if I wanted junk service id go to att!

So glad to see my husband and I are not the only ones completely screwed by verizon and this update! I'm on my second (soon to be third) LG Ally due to issues from the updates and many irritated conversations with CS. It's to the point when I went in last night the guy didn't even look at my phone - he simply said "take the battery out and I'll sen you a new one". Really? I don't want a new one! I want my phone to work properly like I was promised!

Took my phone to the Corporate store yesterday. Things were slow and a sales rep. intercepted me on my way to tech services. Nice enough person and didn't have a clue that there was anything wrong with any of the Allys. He took the phone in the back came back with the phone and said there is nothing wrong with the phone. I asked if he had shut the phone off and turned it back on and he advised yes. I had only done a partial download of my apps so I paged to the apps and showed him the droid icon he said that was just a shortcut problem so I went to the page with all the apps and showed him the droid icons he said"oh" went in the back came back and told me they didn't have a fix for that problem and would get me a refurb phone and would have to mail it to me since they didn't have any refurbs in stock. I told him I did not want a refurb phone I want mine to work. He then told me if t;here is a problem LG and VZW is working to fix the problem. I told him I haven't found anyone in VZW that knows there is a problem and he put no credence in the VZW forums of people saying there is a problem since the update. Left the store with my phone. I guess I'll just go through the hassle of getting a refurb phone for 3 times and then put the lemon law into affect.

And no, a full wipe master reset combined with running ATK every hour is not an acceptable solution.

Well, now ... even just turning the phone off, then back on, flakes apps. (Along with cold reboots).

I called LG directly, and the guy said, they knew of NO issues with the Ally. He consulted with others, incl. an Adroid "expert" and they just said go get a swap out ... mine was defective. But, it seems others have had no luck with that. Anyone????

Everyone ... go directly to LG ... call (800) 243-0000 and tell them what is going on.

Has anyones phones gotten better over time with this new update?

Mine is still a huge pile of junk. The texting is having issues and just to view pictures that I took I have to pop the battery out and then reboot the phone to see pictures. My camara is worse, if I take a picture inside and its not blindingly bright the flash goes off anyways and everything just turns out white. Even after changing settings in the camara it still takes junk pictures. This was better than my BB before the update and now its worse. Im ready to convienantly lose my phone and get a pre owned replacement thing because Im that irritated at it. It would be different if this update was going to be followed pretty directly by the 2.2 update but theres still no word on when we will get it. Im just ready to go get a phone that has the 2.2 update. What the heck Verizon....FIX THIS!!!!!!!

Has anyone found a way to fix the e-mail problem? My Yahoo mail was always pushed to my phone and would show up as soon as I recieved it. Now I have to manually check for e-mails every so often. I would really like to have it pop up as it used to. I would really appreciate any help! Thank you :smileyhappy:

I had the same problem. I was able to run to yahoo accounts with out issue prior to the update. I can only run one now and I had to get the yahoo app from android market. Its a free app.

Try updating the PRL on your phone by dialing *228 send and option 2.

From the Home screen, select the applications tab (bottom of the screen).

select Email.

Select the Yahoo Email Account.

Within the Inbox of Yahoo Email Account: Press the Menu key , tap Account Settings and explore your options.

There you can set how often you want the LG Ally to check for new emails.

I had tried all that, including deleting and reentering the accounts again. The tech at the Verizon store was the one that said some yahoo accounts weren't supported and I had to use the yahoo app from android market.

downloaded the Yahoo mail app and started using that instead but my e-mails only showed up for a couple of hours and then I had to start checking for them again. It's really annoying. What do I do?
