Can I directly sync a Droid Eris phone with my desktop Outlook (without going to a google acct)to sync my contacts & calender.  I have heard yes from a Verizon tech rep and I have heard no from other droid forums.

Thanks in advance

Someone correct me if I am wrong, The eris has 1.5 OS which doesn't support exchange. In order to sync with outlook, you will have to download an app from the market. Or wait until they decide to update the OS.

There is no over the air sync for outlook yet. You can tether it to the pc and use HTC SYNC. I have supplied the link below.

I'm going to have to say that both the previous answers are incorrect. I've synced my Eris with my Outlook on my pc via the USB cable without any extra apps. And my wife can access her work Outlook mail from her Eris, although that was a little tougher to pull off...but still. Without any add'l apps. You have to know all the particular server settings for that...including security settings. So yes, both can be done with a stock Eris. D Dave
