Nexus 5

Rumors are the Nexus 5 will be out soon. I would REAAALLLLLLY LIKE to hear Verizon finally carry the phone. I love the pure Google experience and can't understand why Verizon refuses to carry it. So Verizon I want an answer why do you seem to not care about your customers desires????? I'm personally sick of the generic answers I get when I call. Anyone had an better luck?

Hey Verizon, if your not going to carry a device that your customers have been looking forward to for a year, maybe it would be a great idea to announce something today. BTW, the Droid Mini (released today) is NOT a comparable device. Neither is the HTC One Maxx. Or a White G2. Or a Galaxy Mini. (All which are slated for release in November.)

I get that the Galaxy Nexus had updating issues, as it was the last Nexus to receive updates compared to every other carrier. It all comes down to money. And considering what the device is selling for on the Play Store, $349, it would be a slam dunk to get your customers signing a 2 year contract for the device. Or at least compared to the iPhone and the subsidy, which is many times less profitable. The amount that Verizon pays to subsidize the iPhone is massive, the Nexus could have been released through Verizon at a subsidized price starting at $150, and every Verizon store would have run out today. The Nexus 5 sold out in 33 minutes today in the Play store. Wow, did Verizon miss the mark. now that the holidays are on the way, even more devices will be sold, and the hottest Android device will require a change of carrier for anyone wanting one. Sprint and T-Mobile are in for loads of new subscribers for their foresight. Because at the end of the day its not just the network that matters, its the device you have to live with for 2 years.

This has pretty much sealed VZW's fate in my world. I've been a customer for the past decade, pay over $200 a month and have been for most of that time. I've been waiting nearly a year since the Nexus 4 came out for a Nexus device. I have a new Nexus 7, not LTE of course since I'm barred from that option and just wanted to say thanks for that experience! Morons...

Both of my lines have been up for renewal for roughly a year now, holding out for the new Nexus device. Now that I know it's nowhere in sight I'm done. Does VZW just not make enough money off the deal or what? It just doesn't make business sense in my eyes to not sell a phone that has MILLIONS of loyal customers that buy every iteration released in quantities so vast it causes a multi month back order. I waited too long to find out the official news that it was definitely not being carried by VZW to get one off the first batch so I'm placing my order now and whenever the phones arrive I'm done. I'll give up the reliable network, the speed, and the unlimited data to get a product I actually WANT to own. Yes it means that much to me to have something I enjoy. I swear it's like trying to appease a 2yr old child with getting you guys to listen to anything anyone says or would like to have. Too bad not enough people in the world have the guts to just up and change carrier to get what they want to actually make a difference.

I know there has been a release that things are coming, but too little, too late. I want this phone, NOW.

I jumped on the 4G bandwagon years ago with the Tbolt and it was such a huge disappointment that I went to a store to try and get something different I was basically told to suck it For some reason I thought this time around it might be different, I should have known better.

Verizon listen to your customers.... We're pissed off!! I've been trying to contact live support for an hr now but it's busy, i guess a lot of people are busy complaining about your poor decision to not carry the NEXUS 5. What the hell are you thinking?? Didn't you learn your lesson with the IPhone? Customers are always right and if you don't give us what we want we will go elsewhere to another carrier that provides what the customer demands. Wake up!! I've been a VZW customer for like 10+ years with 4 lines and spend close to $300 a month. When my contract is up I'm leaving, maybe sooner if AT&T gives me a deal on new phones. Your service is no longer the king on the block and your acting like a dictator by forcing your customers to buy bloatware, locking out NFC features and delaying android updates. VZW is a cell phone SERVICE PROVIDER you shouldn't dictate software or hardware. Your not a software company or a cell phone maker so quit meddling in those affairs. Stick to what you do good and that's cell phone coverage. VZW you have been losing your edge against AT&T for awhile now and this is going to send a lot of your loyal customers to other carriers just because you don't' want to play nice with GOOGLE. Hey guess what Google is everywhere and everyone loves them so get with the program!!! Steve Jobs isn't around anymore(God rest his soul) and Google owns Motorola so I ask you once again, What the HELL are you thinking??? Just my 2 cents.......

Amen. Exactly the point. It was such a poor decision to not collaborate with Google on this to ensure that the N5 was compatible with VZW. Now all of the new Nexus users are basically forced to use other carriers, even if they want to stay on VZW for some reason, essentially driving away many loyal customers. Way to go. This was just handled so poorly on VZW's end. You'd think they'd learn after butchering the Galaxy Nexus and then not carrying the N4.

Ladies & Gentlemen, let's take a stroll down memory lane back to a time when the brand Verizon was worn like a Badge of Honor and the name actually MEANT SOMETHING. I go back almost 20 years (1995, 2 lines), "New Every Two" faithfully, we laughed at everyone else's "Inferior" network and the thought was always "What Can Be Better Than This...". But like an abusive relationship I kept re-upping and hoping things would get better. There were disappointments along the way (Cough!!!, the 1st BlackBerry Storm, Waiting FOREVER for the release of the HTC One), but I rolled with the punches like everyone else. No more, not after today... While my trusty BlackBerry Torch 9850 has served me well for the last 2 1/2 years, it's on a Death Row march as of 2:55 today. Thank you Google, a SuperPhone at a price so affordable I picked up two. Let me be clear, IT'S THE CUSTOMER who drives the business not the other way around. Apparently Verizon has forgotten this somewhere down this twisted road we've all been on. The best way to speak to them is WITH YOUR DOLLARS, and I won't leave angry or bitter i'll just leave. Wish I could say I'm sad about leaving, but I'm not. On average, it's been about $189-190 per month for 18 years (You can do the math, close to $41 Grand) so (with sarcasm) "It is with Great Sadness" that I tender my resignation here at Verizon effective October 31, 2013. Remember everyone you have OPTIONS. Six years ago BlackBerry was on Top of The World, but due to their inability to keep up with the times (as well as their Arrogance) they're about to become Extinct. I have been a Verizon customer for 6ish years I guess, and I think this is going to be what causes me to leave. My contract is up, and I've been waiting for a decent phone that isn't $700 off contract to keep my (already expensive) unlimited plan. I'm not going to get a subsidized phone and lose unlimited data. T-Mobile not only has decent LTE coverage in my area now, but they also cost about half as much with my company discount, and won't require some special phone when I travel overseas.

I ordered my N5 and will get a month to month plan with T-Mobile to try it out. Barring any major insufficiencies, Verizon will stop getting my money within the next 30 days.

Will be nice to not have to wait ages for Verizon to update the phone, the junkware that is added... etc.

Competitors may not have the network buildout that Verizon has, but customer experience is about more than just how many bars I get in a podunk town. I bought my Galaxy Nexus on Verizon and hoped the carrier might turn a corner, but nope, always lagging behind the alternatives with updates, always bring some junky bloatware.

I'm nothing to Verizon in the scheme of things, but that's okay. I'll pay less to be nothing somewhere else.

I posted in the 'or else' thread already, so I won't cross post my rant from there here, but the long and short is this is an unacceptable choice.

My contract has been up for over a year, and I had considered staying with Verizon based purely on their ability to provide or support a true 'good' phone. Not a single phone they've released has interested me in the past 3 years, not since the Thunderbolt (and we all know how well that went). The Razr I use is iffy, slow and filled with crapware i could care less about. With my normal apps I use on a day to day basis (no games or heavy cpu apps) it needs weekly reboots to keep it moving at a decent clip.

Really at this point there's nothing holding me to Verizon. Sure I have my unlimited data plan, but I'm not about to pay 600+ for a Verizon bloated phone, and any other option is going to require a new contract. Beyond that, there are as I said not a phone that I'd want that they offer.

And the reports I'm seeing are "Oh we have something coming in 2014 with Google!" - yeah, as with everything else, you're 6 months behind your competitors. Why do I care about your 'awesome forward thinking' network and VoLTE if you don't allow devices we want on that network?

I'm in a unique position too as a Technical Consultant and Technology Executive for a host of businesses ranging from 10 users to 200+ users, and at this point I don't feel comfortable advising them to continue with Verizon contracts, or go with Verizon. AT&T and Sprint have both made incredible investments and upgrades in our area that are easily catching up to Verizon, at less cost and with better phones and support.

Verizon is still stuck in its old ways where it sees itself as king of the mobile telecom. We all need to leave verizon to bring verizon back to its senses. I paid the full amount for HTC Droid DNA(super crappy phone) when they sent me a replacement it looked much dirtier and used than my own phone.

I was hoping to get a Nexus 5 to solve my issues but seems like verizon simply likes to show me the door everytime.

As a disgruntled verizon customer, I strongly encourage you get your customers of verizon network. I am still evaluating moving to sprint, att, t-mobile in that order. With nexus 5 not appearing on verizon I have no other choice but to move to a different network

What? no. Nobody should ever go to AT&T, ever. They are even worse than verizon in their quest for anti-customer behavior. Verizon may be bad and only "Vaguely good" because of what they agreed to with the FCC, but AT&T was the original monopolist (convicted and split for it). Do not support them.

Several of you have the tail wagging the dog here. If I'm a cell phone manufacturer, I want in to the massive Verizon and other CMDA carriers market. Period. If the phone isn't available within the Verizon network, it's because Verizon did something to make it not cost-effective in some way. I can't see how Verizon isn't culpable.

Just got off the Verizon customer chat site, Verizon offers the LG G2 which the Nexus 5 is based off of for 549.99 (off contract price) for the 16gb model which most likely includes Verizon bloatware and no hope of any update to 4.4 (LG G2 is on 4.2.2).

I want to keep my unlimited plan so I said no thanks. I will have to keep on the Droid 3 till it drops dead.

Even then, the LG2 has been called a "brain dead hercules" -- the software on it is apparently crippling. And that's one of the reasons I'd prefer a nexus device, these companies are not software manufacturers and don't do a good job of it. This includes pretty much everyone (Apple has come a very very long way since the 90's). But even Samsung's interface/code changes aren't very well made, nor the ones that HTC added.

Also, realize that if you are not taking advantage of the subsidization you are paying Verizon way more than you need to, since they make up for the subsidization with higher costs ...

A petition is meaningless when dealing with a company like Verizon, they're too large and know that of the small percentage of users that will even sign the petition, there is an even smaller percentage that will leave. Isn't half of the smart phone business iphones and for the 40-45% that are Android phones, the bulk of that is probably Samsung. How much of this is on contract and this initial disappointment will blow over the user by then? Most family plans have different expiration dates making moving to another carrier even more expensive.

They don't need to listen to a petition as they have the market share, profit margin, highest rated network and a contract moving a family expensive. What gets their attention is competition. If you want to make a difference, vote with your wallet. This makes them worry, not petitions:

I ordered a Nexus 5, and a T-Mobile prepaid SIM. If the phone and service work for me, I'll cancel Verizon, if not, I'll stay. Having a service that is reliable is more important to me than making a point, after all it is just a phone. May even try Sprints new service Spark or AT&T goPhone.

If you're expecting the FCC or any other government agency to do something to help, forget it. Verizon permits illegal NSA access to its network and gets the other agencies to turn a blind eye to pesky FCC rules.

I've been loyal verizon customer for long time. However I've been waiting like the rest of the folks in these forum for the nexus 5 to come to verizon. However with these unfortunate "no news" from verizon, I plan to cancel and go to Tmobile. I've had freezing problem with my Moto Razr with all the bloatware and the phone has been getting slow. I purchase the Nexus 7 and love the pure android experience. very quick and responsive. Sorry verizon wish you luck in the next quarter profits. I for one plan to not give any more money to company that does not listen to their customers.

Like a fat kid in dodge ball, I'm out. You have the best service in my area, but the price of your plans is absurd and meeting customer demands is zero. The ONLY reason you keep customers locked in a vice is due to coverage, that is it, plain and simple. I'll give up my account by selling my unlimited data plan on ebay for $300-$400. Then I will use that money to buy this phone and switch to a different provider. This provider will have somewhat inferior service in my area, but I won't care when I'm holding the device I choose and see the much lower monthly bill. You guys are screwing up, I hope you have plans to compete with Sprint spark in the next few years, they might eat your lunch.

I'm right there with you. Verizon's inability to embrace the Nexus mentality has ticked me off for the last time. I dealt with the lack of a Nexus 4, but this is just the end of the road for me. AT&T and Nexus 5 here I come.

Verizon consistently has been disappointing me. It started when I purchased my Droid RAZR MAXX, they had advertisements listing a cheaper price and failed to honor them, and by advertisements I mean over 75 little cards scattered around the store. Then their sales rep brought over their manager and she told me it wasn't good which was followed up by them picking them all up. Good customer service there at the New Philadelphia, Ohio store on East High. Not only to have my phone freak out later and tell me and update is coming. Its been at least 6 months and no update since that call and I have seen no update. A day late and a dollar short seems like verizon will be losing more than a few dollars.

P.s. They have also disconnected a friend of mines phone twice within the last few months "accidentally". Their numbers randomly got on a list. Sometimes paying the bill isn't enough!

Time to switch carriers. I've been eyeballing the HTC One... oh, since it first came out. Verizon didn't get it until 4 months after every other carrier did with no clear release date, leaving me with a broken Droid X that couldn't maintain a wireless connection, crashed constantly, and couldn't pick up a GPS signal; and I was lucky a friend was able to give me a mint condition Droid X he had laying around. As I got tired of waiting through August, I actually went to T-Mobile, bought the HTC One and carried it with me for a month before returning it. The only reason I didn't keep it, was because the network coverage wasn't quite as good as Verizon. Well, I don't care anymore. It'll have to be good enough for me. I'll sell my unlimited line to someone else (appears to take about 5 minutes to perform the transfer ownership of a line according to a Verizon rep), and get that $30 unlimited data plan through t-mobile and use skype for calls; already bought a year subscription and a number. My total bill will be under $60/month for unlimited (4G LTE speed up to 5gigs) data/text/and calls.

I'm tired of Verizon. Tired of their locked down phones full of bloatware. Tired of their network that doesn't allow data and talk at the same time. Tired of the fact that phones from all other carriers don't work on their network. Tired of their upgrade fees, contracts, lack of an unlimited data plan, and their new Edge pyramid scam. Tired of waiting for phones that every other carrier gets 4 months earlier or years earlier, whether it's the iPhone or the HTC One, tired of their high plan and phone prices, tired of their stringing people along, and now failing to carry the Nexus 5.

It's only a matter of time before someone builds a new internet backbone wipes their company off the map. This company is getting to big and arrogant, and it will fall.

I said a few weeks ago I was going to leave VZW if they didn't carry the N5, and well, I just did. I HAPPILY paid a $560 ETF for all my lines and ordered my N5, which I will be getting on Monday. I'm going to go with T-Mobile. Hopefully more people leave and VZW will start to feel the heat.

Verizon will let Apple do what ever they want with their phone, but this one Nexus model that Google keeps pushing out, they give Google and more importantly their customers the finger!! I will gladly add my name to the list of people that won't be a verizon wireless customer come December ETF fees be damned. I have ordered my Nexus 5. I see rumors Verizon will not be carrying it. If that is the case then I will be leaving Verizon after about 10 years of use. I don't care what excuse Verizon uses to say why they won't carry the phone. If they aren't carrying the phones I want to use, I won't be using them. I will also be dumping my Verizon stock. I don't carry stock of a company I won't use. I hate to say goodbye but I like Google better and if Verizon isn't going to play ball, then I won't give them my money anymore.

It's not just about the phone. It is about Verizon's inability listen to their customers. I understand that anger. People pay a lot of money for their service, and this thread is about customers voicing their concerns on yet another example of the company turning a blind eye.

Many of us ARE moving on. We simply want to let Verizon know WHY we are moving on before we do so. I see no harm in that.

Leaving Verizon for Tmobile as soon as my Nexus 5 comes in the mail. $30/month for 100 minutes and unlimited data & text sure beats my verizon 450 minutes, 4GB data, unlimited text for $100/month

It's not about just this phone.

Verizon wireless (as well as its parent Verizon Comm) has been the champion of anti-consumer practices since its inception. From crippling device capabilities - locking down bluetooth and usb mode so that customers were forced to use picturemail service to extract pictures from phones, locking down NFC to prevent google wallet in order to promote its own service, putting massive amount of bloatware, lackluster deice support with industry's slowest updates, repeated violations of FCC rules (verizon was fined multiple times), wanting to control "content" that goes through its network (VZ Comm), not allowing devices (against FCC rules) that verizon can't control 100% (nexus 7 and Nexus 5) -- just to name a few.

Customers have tolerated verizon's unlawful anti-consumer behaviors for a long time - what you see here is just people speaking out.

I've watched phone after phone pass by and now i'm done. I'm so tired of dealing with locked bootloaders, bloatware, crap updates, and huge bills. Good bye Verizon wireless, now I'll finally have a real nexus to call my own.

Here is why I ordered a Nexus 5, knowing it would not work on VZW:

Bought an HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE on release day (July 2012), to replace my 2-year old original Droid Incredible. Since then, VZW has provided ZERO Android OS updates. Z-E-R-O. Because of this, I am unable to utilize updated tools provided by Google for this OS (Google Now, etc...)

The only "update" that VZW has provided was to enable global roaming and to push their bloatware/spyware "Verizon Remote Diagnostics" app, allowing VZW employees unrestricted remote access to my device. This update was automatic, mandatory, and is unable to be removed or disabled, (as per NSA directives?)

VZW has prevented the use of Google Wallet on this device, in favor of their inferior and proprietary payment system.

When I purchased this device, I was told by the VZW rep, and was able to confirm myself, that the device could be unlocked via the HTCDev website. However, mere weeks after making this purchase, VZW bullied HTC into disabling this important developer resource.

I have posted on the VZWSupport Twitter page several times, requesting information about why VZW has abandoned this device, but my posts are either totally ignored, or I have received canned responses that have been drafted/approved by the VZW corporate communications department that are totally useless.

In the midst of our contracts, VZW decided to no longer offer the option to update to a new device at 20 months, but is enforcing the full 24 month window. Since the presents no "material adverse effect", we were unable to legally terminate our contracts. As a VZW customer of over 10 years, this was an extremely disappointing strategy.

We also remain deeply discouraged by VZW's decision to force users onto a shared data plan when upgrading to a new device, instead of the option to remain on an unlimited data plan, despite entering into a 2-year contract. The new activation fees, ostensibly for "customer training sessions", were downright insulting. I thought the annoyance I felt at the time over these policy changes would wear off, but it has only intensified.

As an I.T. consultant focusing on the small and medium business markets here in Las Vegas, I am constantly asked by my clients about what cellular service and/or devices I recommend. In the past, it has always been VZW, due to their strong network here. However, both T-Mobile and Sprint have been making vast improvements in this city, and combined with VZW's anti-consumer tactics over the last several months, I no longer make that recommendation.

Because of all of the above, I have made a commitment to my clients, and my family, to explore other options. The Nexus 5 presents the perfect opportunity to do so. It is a device that is not burdened by VZW's bloatware, spyware, and incomprehensible business strategy. If all goes well, we will leave VZW, pay the ETFs, and recover our losses within 3 months via the savings incurred from the lower priced options available from other carriers. I would not want to be a VZW shareholder anytime over the next four quarters, as I believe it will take at least that long for VZW to realize their mistakes and make the necessary corrections in their business plan.

I've been reading at all the android sites in comments and forums of an exodus to other carriers for the nexus 5. It is kind of sad that people are voting with their wallets and Verizon isn't even tallying the votes. With 100 million on their network, i don't think they'd even notice, hundreds, thousands, hundreds of thousands leaving to go elsewhere for a nexus 5.

The only thing Verizon has going for it is their coverage of the US. Their lte network is slow and congested, I only get speeds of 8/2 now slower than my wifi. In Jan 2012 I got speeds of 15/10 when no one was using it. Verizon has barely a selection of phones unlike the other carriers which carry a bevy of phones, including the Nexus 5. Not to mention the difference in prices as well for aff contract unlimited everything the other carriers offers. I think I may be leaving to when my contract is up, unless I hear of something special that comes from this Google and Verizon collaboration on something yet to be announced for 2014. Which will probably be just the approval of the Nexus 7 tablet, Verizon said there was an "issue" with it and asked Google to update it to 4.4 first before they'd allegedly consider approval I read.

No one is leaving...there is no exodus. A few techies perhaps and I for sure pondered it for a moment, but then realized "oh wait its a phone and they give me great coverage at my office where I use my phone as my sole wireless source of data".

No one has heard of the Nexus 5. Well to clear up we have heard of it. But everyone here is likely a techie or an electronics fan of some sort. They are not my parents who don't care and just want a phone or the average consumer who could care less and also "just wants a phone that works". And that's what the bulk of the market is. People who just want a phone for a reasonable price under contract. The only reason my g/f has a Galaxy Nexus 3 is because I told her to get it since it was the same phone I have. She has no clue what the difference between her phone and something like a Droid Maxx would be. She also wouldn't care.

And that is most of the market. They don't care. They buy the Galaxy S4 because that's what is advertised. The "barely any" selection of phones with VZN is good enough for most people. How do I know this? Their Q2 profits were $20 BILLION which are about 7% higher than last years profits. So clearly they have been GAINING CUSTOMERS. You think any of us techie nerds leaving changes anything? Nope! Not in the least! So while I'm not a fan of anything except for VZN's coverage, please spare me your "wow hundreds of thousands are leaving". That's utter BS. I would bet that half of the guys posting their angry "I'm leaving" will think twice when they go to Tmobile and their data speeds go down. Where I am in the Chicago market, my data speeds are faster on VZN than my other line on Tmobile (assuming I get service at all).

People THINK they're voting by posting angry comments. The reality is that except for the one off cases, no one is going anywhere. And for now...certainly not me even though I'd love to go.

People are leaving, but it's not in droves. It'll be a trickle at best. As a point, I've already begun the process to port my number to T-mobile. If I get fed up with T-Mobile, I'll go to ATT (or sprint, or a reseller). I just see no point in staying with Verizon (or going back) when the other major three carriers are leagues freer service-wise. And all of this will probably be moot when Verizon goes full VoLTE in late 2014, since they will no longer *legally* be able to restrict the devices on their network..

Unlimited data on Tmobile is $70 a month. Not sure where you're pulling $30 a month from. Also with the unlimited data you get up to 2.5gigs and then they slow you down to roughly 2G speeds. I use typically 20gigs on the low end and 60 on the high end per month without ever being slowed down by VZN (except during peak times I've seen it slow sometimes drastically for up to 30 minutes).

What you said sounds like more of an empty threat than anything else man.

How do you begin to port your number? You walk in to Tmobile and you port it. It's done in minutes not as a "process". Which to me indicates that you haven't actually done anything. I'm not a VZN fanboy, in fact I dislike their customer service greatly and their lack of phones personally. Simply calling out "empty rants".

I believe that there's no point to staying with Verizon if you're not constantly using their data like I am. I run a photography studio and my phone acts as my hotspot using one of the apps that let's me do wireless tethering. It's easy for me to use 1-2gigs per day of data. If I switched to Tmobile I would need to get Comcast or other internet provider because Tmobile service is not good inside of my studio or in my area of Chicago at all.

What's likely is that I'll wait to see what "rumored device" they're working on for 2014 and if I don't like that, then once my Nexus 3 becomes very slow and the battery finally stops holding a charge, I will get the Moto X or some other phone that "does the job". Now if VZN was to take away my unlimited data...you betcha I'm outta here!

My Nexus 5 came in the mail on Thursday and I switched to T-Mobile. There is a $30/month plan. It is under the prepaid site. After taxes it came to $32 for me and it includes 100 minutes, unlimited text, and unlimited data (aka 5gb of LTE and unlimited 2G data after that). It sounds like you do use a lot of data a Verizon is gonna be your best bet, but Tmobile is where I went since I have at most used 4GB/month. I had been with Verizon since 2005 and just got fed up and I am not an empty threat. They won't miss me though. I would bet they get rid of your unlimited data in the next 2 years but I hope they don't.

My Nexus 5 came in the mail on Thursday so I left Verizon for T-Mobile and while I cant get the LTE in my home, the 3G is as about as fast as the Verizon LTE I was getting. I am pulling about 10/3 which is a little less than 10/5 my Droid Razr was getting with LTE. There is T-Mobile LTE about 5 minutes away from my house so I wonder what that will give me. I'm happy so far but the good thing with the Nexus 5 is that I could always buy an ATT LTE sim card and go to Straight Talk for $45/month and use the ATT LTE network without having to switch phones.

Also with the $70 T-mobile plan you do get unlimited data at 4G speeds. It is the $60 plan that you get 2.5GB at 4G speeds.

mnovosel, I agree with a lot of what you said, I had a similar post. The number of users impacted by a Nexus 5 is tiny on Verizon. Most of the people here saying they're leaving won't. But Verizon won't be gaining any Nexus 5 users either, and it is a top selling phone right now.

I haven't ported my number yet. I'm happy with the Nexus 5, sans two issues, battery life and speaker (Google is correcting the speaker firmware) are really the only problems with the phone I've seen. T-Mobile works fine for me in Metro NYC, there are places its better and worse than Verizon.

I'm not leaving just because of the N5, its a combination of reasons.

-Poor android support (slow updates) across the product line

-Nexus 5

-Nexus 7 although this MAY be resolved.

-Cost $130 on Verizon vs $70 on T-Mobile vs $45 prepaid services

-Data speed in NYC is generally 1-3mbps, sometimes faster, sometimes slower.

-Google Wallet

With the N5, T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint are all options for me and I can switch with the change of a sim card, no contracts.

Verizon won't miss me.

I'm another no one that is leaving vzw. I've been with Verizon for over 10 years, and they just keep getting worse. I have purchased two N5 handsets from play store and I'm switching to T-Mobile when my contract with vzw expires next month. I know I'm not alone and Verizon will loose many long time customers in the coming month. This is just from word of mouth advertising. I know most customers don't care, but when my extended family are shopping for phones they ask the family techie, who will not recommend Verizon because of financial reasons they cannot argue with... I pay $250 a month (with taxes and fees) for 2 smart phones with unlimited data and mobile hot spot from Verizon. I normally use about 10gb per month between the 2 phones. Moving to mobile share on VZW of 10gb, saves me 9$ a month over my unlimited plan, which is nothing in savings, cause all it takes is one month going over 10gb and the savings is gone. T-Mobile is good in my area and have just upgraded their 4G network here. The download speeds are showing faster than VZW, plus they are offering no annual contract so If I don't like the service I can go to ATT or Sprint. I also get unlimited talk, text, and 4g data, with no throttling, and 2.5 gb to use for hot spot. All this on both phones for $120 a month + taxes and fees. (70$ first phone 50$ additional line) This saves my family over $100 a month. Who in anyone's family couldn't use an extra $1200 a year. After I recoup the out of pocket for the two phones, which was $700 , minus the $400 (I would have spent on upgrading 2 higher end phones from VZW), its all saved cash and a lot of it. If I stay with the N5s and T-Mobile for 2 years, its $2100 less than what I would have paid at Verizon for being locked in on a 2 year contract. That is too big of savings to ignore.
